I've uploaded an updated version of the Titanic Jump dress research page - though it's still not finished. Sorry it took so long! I've also made some progress with the gown itself: I sewed the beaded bodice parts together. All the seams are backed with black plain weave tape to prevent stretching. Now I'm contemplating whether I should interface

Can't wait to see your progress on the Givenchy coat. What a great garment - so classic and couture but so ORANGE! :D A wonderful mark of distinction and vitality.

Yeah, I love the colour too though it did take awhile to grow on me. Alas, I was unable to find anything like the original fabric - so mine is just red with a slightly textured surface.

Wow - you've made some great observations! Some of them were things I totally missed! But my dress is done! I love that you got a clear shot of the pendants on the train! I need to redo mine! I found your research invaluable when making this costume - and I agree with your assement of bead sizes and such for the vest - they worked out well for me. That is, using 3mm black beads and 10/0 seed beads. I have no experience with tambour work, so I sewed them on separately, 4 at a time. It wasn't bad though! I think your beading, especially the black beads, is way neater than mine! But I was kind of in a race for time, so it turned out ok! I also made my vest with a front closure so I wouldn't have to worry about the train and such. I did put a pleat at the center back of it - it poofs out a bit on me, which I don't like. I didn't use darts on the underskirt - I didn't need them. I also forgot about putting snaps on the bodice and vest -I need to do that. I sewed wire onto the lining layer to keep the shape - and used safety pins! I

Thanks! Anyhow, I think you did amazing job on this one - then again I didn't expect anything less. I've been thinking of that front closure thing too, why on earth did they not put front closure in the original? Using wire in the edges sounds like a good idea, the bodice is so floppy.

And detailed as it might be, my research is just research, all based on photos and second hand information. I'm afraid we're never going to know all the secrets of the gown and what differences there may be between different versions. Though I still hope I'm going to see the gown in person one day! (even a few nice hi-res photos would be helpful, ha ha)

Thank you! There are still a ton of things I'd do differently. I wish I'd had lighter power netting to line the underbodice - it's a bit too dark, for one!

The front closure works really great - I wouldn't want a back closure I don't think - with the train it would be a pain.

Yes, but I think your observations are really good even if we can't verify all of them! You have a good eye for detail! I wish we had hi-res exhibit pics too! Maybe someday! And then we will have to redo our costumes because we will know how wrong they are! ;-)

Oh -- thank you for the jump dress research! It's way down on my "wish list" but your research will be very helpful.

It's great that you already have the underpinnings for this one! Mine is made to be worn without a corset - a choice I sometimes regret.
