Help me, please!

I switched off my computer yesterday and everything was all right.

This morning I switched it on only to find that there was a password added and a guest account which also has a password. Now I can't log in. The password was definitely not there before, so it must be a virus. Only I have never heard of any such virus before and I have no idea what ( Read more... )

Before you reformat or attempt anything at all, maybe it will be a good idea to contact a technician or something of the kind?

I will call my father and see what he has to say on the topic and then leave another comment. Don't panic before you are certain you have a reason to - most probably things can be fixed. *hugs*

I wasn't going to reformat anything, I still cling to my hope, surely something *can* be done!

Thank you so much! *hug back*

Yeah, I was going to suggest taking it to a shop or something. I'm sure something can be done about it without you losing all your stuff - there must be an override, as people surely forget their passwords sometimes?

Good luck, I understand how horrible it must be to think you've lost all your stuff, and can't explain why you're upset to your family.

*hugs*

That is what I thought, but apparently it is security and that is the point, I guess if your computer is stolen or something you know no one can get to your files. It sucks :(((

Thank you hon *hug back*

Well that is what I thought at first, but my brother said he hasn't touched it and has been very helpful in trying to find a way to solve it, and I believe him. We have downloaded and burned an emergency boot CD which has given us access to some things, I am not really sure but my dad is doing things now and I am trying not to panic. I wish it was all a joke, but it can't be and at it makes no sense and I just don't understand how it is all possible. :(

Thank you. *big hug*

I know how sad it can be to lose all your stuff - mine crashed really badly at christmas and I had to wipe everything. My parents thought I was overreacting too, but like you say, the stuff on your hard drive is a little bit like your possessions, things you collect - difficult to lose. :( hope it gets sorted!

Well, maybe I am overreacting but you are right, they are possessions and in a way when they disappear it is like you've been robbed. What sucks is that it is all in there, I just can't get to it. Thanks, so do I, sadly it doesn't seem likely.

Well, it won't be, not soon anyway, we will get me a new hard drive and try to put the stuff I want from my one into the other computer, but I am not sure how long that will take. We can try talking by email?
