Passengers for JAR 268, I’m Captain Kikuwa Matoshi. We’ll be landing in Narita International Airport in 30 minutes time. The temperature is -5°C and the wind is a little chilly. We are expecting heavy snow tonight. I hope you’ve enjoyed the flight with us and have a nice day.
Finally after seven hours of sitting on an airplane, I have arrived in Japan. It was otou-san’s last wish before he slipped into coma to see ojii-chan* and obaa-chan* again. I have no idea where they could be and all I have is the address and a picture of an old man and woman that otou-san* gave me.
I’m Japanese but I grew up in another country. That’s the reason why I can’t speak Japanese fluently. I think I’m going to have language barrier with obaa-chan and ojii-chan only if I find them first. Well, that’s my fault for not paying attention in my Japanese classes.
The airport was packed with people even though it’s January. People were collecting their luggage from the luggage carrier. I grabbed my suitcase and headed to the exit. When I got out, I shivered. The captain was right. The weather was chilly and the sky was clouded with darkness. I hoped to find a place to stay before it starts snowing heavily. I flagged down a taxi and found myself in front of a cheap motel twenty minutes later in Tokyo. The taxi driver was kind enough to give me some suggestions on cheap motels though I could not really understand what he was saying.
It costs me around 3000¥ for a night stay in the hotel. I think it should be cheap enough to for me to stay there for a month just in case I couldn’t find obaa-chan and ojii-chan. I left the luggage and my passport in the room and went out to look for them. Based on the address, they live somewhere in Kanagawa. This was the same address given from otou-san when he visited them which was ten years ago. I hope that they still live there so I can bring them home to see otou-san. We could not visit them because otou-san was busy with his company. Otou-san’s company has not been doing very well ever since economy was down. I am an only child as okaa-san* passed away while giving birth to me. I’ve been blaming myself for the death of my mother but otou-san told me it was not my fault and not to be too concerned about it.
Suddenly, it started snowing heavily. I should have brought an umbrella with me. The address stated on the paper that the house is just opposite the road. Just a few more steps across this road and my task in Japan will be over. That is if my grandparents are still staying there. A strong gust of wind blew the slip of paper out of my grasp and landed in the middle of the road.

“Akanishi Jin! You’re next.” the director called out.
“Should I just run like normal?” Akanishi asked.
“Yes, like you are running after someone you like.” the director answered. But I’ve never been in this kind of situation before and I don’t think I ever will, Akanishi thought. He ran across the set where the camera recorded his every movement. KAT-TUN was filming a music video for their new single, 大丈夫じゃない (I’m Not Okay). It’s about how they fell in love with girls whom they met and when each of the girls left them in different situations for each of the members; and the girls say, ‘You’ll be okay without me.’
“Okay, that’s a wrap for Akanishi Jin.” the director announced.
“Thank you for all the hard work.” Akanishi said and bowed to the workers. The rest of the members of KAT-TUN had left except for Taguchi. He was the last member to leave, after Akanishi.
“Ah, it’s snowing heavily today…” Akanishi concluded as he drove his Toyota Prius out of the basement. The clock on his dashboard showed nine o’ clock in bloody red colour. Snow drifted from the night sky and clouded the windscreen of Akanishi’s car. Akanishi, blinded from the heavy snow, continued driving, reaching for the windscreen wiper handle and suddenly he heard a crash. Akanishi winced. It sounded like someone just got hit by a car.
Akanishi got out of the car and rushed to a girl lying in a pool of blood.
“Oh my God!” Akanishi panicked. The girl was still breathing but her pulse was very weak. Without a second thought, he took out his phone from the back pocket and dialled 991, the emergency number for the ambulance in Japan.
“Hello, this is the Department for Emergencies. How may I help you?” a woman on the line said.
“Hello, there’s an accident in (…) Street. The girl is bleeding profusely.” Akanishi said in a panicky voice.
“Okay, I need you to calm down and the ambulance will arrive shortly.”The woman said.
“Okay, thank you.” Akanishi said and hung up. Then he suddenly thought of his manager and scrolled the contact list to find his name. His manager answered the phone on the third ring.
“Hello?”
“Hello, Manager-san. It’s Akanishi on the line. I just got involved in an accident at (…) Street.”
“What happened?”
“I just finished shooting for the PV of「大丈夫じゃない」and knocked down a girl while driving out from the basement. The ambulance is on their way now.”
“Okay, I’ll be there in a minute.”
After a short while, the sirens of the ambulance and police cruisers were heard. The paramedics quickly got down from the ambulance with a blue box and tried to stop the bleeding. Police officers were questioning Akanishi about the accident. Akanishi’s manager arrived shortly when he was about to be escorted to the police station for further questioning.
“Manager-san!” Akanishi called out. His manager quickly walked towards him.
“I have to go to the police station.” Akanishi said in a scared voice. He was trembling in fright.
“I’ll come to you later with Lawyer-san when I get some more information about the girl’s condition.” Manager-san said. Akanishi nodded and reluctantly went into the police cruiser.

“May I know the condition of the girl that was involved in a car accident just now?” Manager-san asked the nurse at the counter at the Emergency Department.
“May I know who you are?” the nurse asked.
“I’m her guardian.”
“Her condition is not known yet as she is still in the operation theatre. Why don’t you sit down and wait for awhile. I’ll let you know when it’s done.”
“Okay…or why don’t you call my number and tell me? I need to handle something important.”
“Sure, leave your name and contact number here.”
Manager-san jotted down his number and left the hospital. He quickly drove to the police station where Akanishi was. On his way there, he contacted Johnny’s Entertainment (JE)’s lawyer. He always handles cases that involve any JE members. Lawyer-san arrived at the police station five minutes after Manager-san arrived.
“Manager-san! Lawyer-san!” Akanishi said with delight after he saw them. He was bailed out since the police officers could not charge him for any serious offence as there was no eye-witness at the time of the accident.
“Johnny-san wants to see you at headquarters now, if possible.” Lawyer-san said as the three of them walked out of the police station.
“Manager-san, do you think…” Akanishi was interrupted by the call.
“Ah, it must be the hospital.” Manager-san said.
“Hello?”
“Hello.”
“Is this Manager-san?” I’m the nurse from (…) Hospital.”
“Yes, this is Manager speaking.”
“The doctor would like to speak to you regarding the girl’s condition.”
“Okay, I’ll be right there.” Manager-san killed the call and turned to Akanishi, “I’m sorry, Akanishi. I’m afraid you have to find some other way to see Johnny-san. I need to go to the hospital.”
“Is this about the girl? How is she?” Akanishi asked in a worried tone.
“I’m not sure. That’s why I have to go to the hospital now.” Manager-san said.
Manager-san left for the hospital after Lawyer-san agreed to bring Akanishi to the headquarters. After he found a parking space, he went to the Emergency Department immediately. He saw the same nurse on the counter.
“Hello, I’m Manager. You said the doctor would like to see me.”
“Yes, please follow me.”
The nurse led him to a room quite far away from the beds. She stopped at a door with a sign saying ‘Dr. Yamada Masaki’. She enters the room after knocking twice on the door.
