Ueda arrived at his infirmary the next day find a pacing Daiki just outside, “Daiki-kun, what’s up…”
Daiki looked at the doctor nervously, “Ueda-sensei, you have to help me…I have a huge problem.”
Ueda glanced at the younger guy as he opened the door, “What’s the matter, you look healthy to me.”
Daiki stammered, “I’m in bit of a trouble…I’m falling in love with someone.”
Ueda smiled, “That doesn’t sound like a problem to me it sounds wonderful.” He remembered his time last night with his Ryotan.”
Daiki sighed, “Ueda-sensei, you don’t understand he’s human.”
Ueda nodded, “That would pose a problem since you’re allergic to human blood. Can’t they get turned…then you would have the problem.”
Daiki collapsed in a chair, “I wish it were that simple…it’s Shoon. We both know that will never happen.”
Ueda scratched his head, “Yamashita Shoon…as in the resort’s chief of security…”
Daiki gave him a half-hearted grin, “The same one, I’m so drawn to him…I keep wanting to sink my teeth into what he offers so freely but I know I can’t. He has always brought me bottles when I needed them. Last night I forgot to eat lunch and he offered himself to me when I bordered on bloodrage. When I explained things he arranged for a donor to come for me…after that well, it was the most amazing night of my life. I’m falling in love with him, he has offered me everything he’s held precious and I want to be able to accept. I need you to help me…I hate refusing him.”
Ueda nodded, “I understand how he feels offering everything and having someone not be able to accept. I’ve been working on a way to try to turn willing humans who are immuned with little luck. I’ll need to collaborate on this with Ikuta Toma-sensei, he knows as much about humans as I know about vamps.”
Daiki jumped excitedly, “You’ll help me…thank you. How soon can we get started….”
Ueda sat at his desk, “We’ll need a small sample of Shoon’s blood and yours to create genetic profiles. After that we’ll need to actually test your reaction to consuming human blood to gauge your body’s reaction. Then we can try to synthesize a supplement that will allow you to digest it without making you ill.”
Daiki was suddenly nervous, “You won’t use Shoon’s blood for the test will you? I won’t let myself get sick from his blood. He couldn’t handle it if it was his that made me ill. I don’t think I could either, I would hate to hurt him like that.”
Ueda nodded, “Okay we’ll get another donor to provide the test blood, I think I know some who just might. He’ll think this experiment might led to what he wants,” the last part he whispered.
Daiki frowned, “Who exactly do you have in mind…”
Ueda laughed nervously, “Oh just someone.”
Daiki frowned, “Not Nishikido Ryo, Koyama-sama’s Chief of security…”
Ueda sighed, “So what…he’ll get to be bigger part of my research then he already is.”
A snarky voice snapped, “What’s this I hear about research…”
Ueda turned red, “Ryotan…I mean Nishikido-kun.”
Daiki looked from face to face, “You want to use your lover’s blood…”
Ryo glared, “Use my blood for what? Why are you talking about our research with Arioka-kun.”
Ueda shook his head as he protested, “I’m not…he came for a completely different reason.”
Ryo sat on the desk near Ueda to irritate him, “What kind of research then.”
Ueda whispered something about doctor-patient privilege.”
Ryo laughed sardonically, “Privilege my ass…if you want me involved you better explain.”
Daiki looked from face to face, “Nishikido-san, you’re immune aren’t you.”
Ryo glared at him, “Thank you so much for bring up a painful subject.”
Daiki shivered, “Well my boyfriend is human just like you and he’s immune too. Only I’m allergic to human blood…I tend to go into severe anaphylactic shock when I consume it on accident. I want to share that intimacy other couples have but I can’t…I was hoping Ueda-sensei could help me.”
Ryo watched the younger man nearly break with those words, “You want to go through anything to share what we have…”
Daiki nodded, “I’d give up anything for Shoon.”
“Even your immortality…” Ryo asked.
Daiki smiled sadly, “Even that…I want him that much.”
Ueda frowned, “That would be difficult…we barely understand how vampirism works. When we bite humans something like venom is released which proceeds to rewrite their DNA like a virus and multiply. It can take hours to days for a turning to take place, after that it is impossible to undo. I haven’t figured out exactly what it is that prevents humans like Ryotan and Shoon from turning. I want to be one with Ryotan as much you want to be with Shoon but I know it’s impossible. I’m at my wits end; I think there’s something I’m missing. I need to coordinate research with Ikuta-sensei. Daiki-kun, can you arrange for him to get clearance for this level…”
Daiki pulled out his phone, “Shoon,” he said as the other answered, “It’s Daiki, are you in the office yet…good, can you give Ikuta-sensei level six clearance…thanks dear, I’ll see you in a little while.” He turned back to Ueda, “It should be in the system in five to ten minutes. I’d better go; I promised Shoon we’d have breakfast together.”
Ueda looked at Ryo, “Breakfast sounds good.”
Ryo shook his head, “I think you’ve had enough Tat-chan.”
Ueda pouted, “Never…I can never have enough of you.”
Daiki left the infirmary whistling, with two of the greatest minds in medicine maybe sometime soon he and Shoon could bond on a level they only dreamed of. He wanted that with all his heart.
