"Announcement! Low achieving students have been assigned after school tutoring Fridays and Saturdays from the students with the highest scores. Effective immediately. Those who do not attend will be held back. This includes you Ninomiya Ryosuke..." the information packet with times and an assigned tutor was dropped on his desk during math class.
Ryosuke pouted, he'd been assigned the smartest guy in school...he knew it...and it was so unfair. Everyone said he was arrogant and didn't associate with 'normal or failing students. He was supposed to kick around a soccer ball with Ryuunosuke after school since his friend didn't have to help at the store. He walked slowly with his head down to the tutoring class...why was the school doing this? Wasn't this sort of thing reserved for cram schools? He was lucky he didn't have to attend since his father worked at his uncle's ramen shop; they didn't make enough money and he probably wouldn't be helped much because he barely passed or failed slightly. He spotted his tutor and bit his lip as he moved closer...he was cute. He shook himself mentally, he may have to wear that horrible uniform as Sailor Sol but he was not gay...girls were cute....

Taiyou had been petted by Ryuunosuke and heard that Ryosuke had to stay after school for tutoring. He snuck into the school, it had had a weird feeling all morning...he sensed two strong power signals near Ryosuke and one was clearly evil. He pressed his paw lightly to the sunmark that proclaimed him a servant of the Sol Kingdom and the royal family. He closed his eyes reaching out to the only person he'd been able to truly communicate with...Nikkou...
"Nikkou...I sense two power signatures near Sailor Sol...I am worried he maybe in danger...Ryosuke is aware of the existence of the Shadow Empire...but not the extent of its strength..."
"Alert him to the danger...act as the situation dictates..."
"Yes..." who was 'Nikkou? Hopefully they were truly friendly...he'd never been given information that was incorrect of led to a trap just yet..he hurried to the room when Ryosuke was studying. Hopefully...he wouldn't be too late...

Ryosuke listened intently as the genius explained how simple his math homework really want....yet the other boy wouldn't actually give him the answers. How in the world did such a genius end up so cute? Geez...at least Chinen Yuri wasn't as arrogant as he was rumored to be. Chinen was a little gruff, but when he actually managed to get a problem right...the other boy had a type of smile that could make someone's knees week...he didn't like boy so it was fine right?
Chinen explained as patiently as he could, why had he agreed to do this? He was missing valuable sleep and study time...he spent more of his time sleeping or studying. If he studied properly he wouldn't need to cram and could get a decent night's sleep which helped him do well on tests. He'd made his studying and sleeping a habit...he liked his system. Without it he doubted he would have scored in the top five students in the nation and was on equal terms with many college-bound 3rd year high school students. He had been offered entrance to ToDai and Meiji as well as Keio University provided he tested into at least one difficult high school and could pass the university entrance exams.
Ryosuke spotted Taiyou and gulped, "I'll be right back." he grabbed the shiba inu and failed to hide him in his jacket, when they were far enough they couldn't be heard, "What do you want? I was actually studying and doing my homework. Chinen-san is a good tutor..."
Taiyou snapped, "Good tutor...perhaps...but something else...I don't know what..." why did the boy make him uncomfortable... "He has a strong power signature...and there is someone evil here too...I don't know if Chinen--san is related to the evil presence..."
Ryosuke pouted, "I actually do something good and I'm going to be punished by having to wear that awful outfit? No way...I refused to tranform. I'm going back to study..." he turned and left the dog heading back to go study.
There were sharp screams, many students were glowing wrapped in scrolls...including Chinen-san and the room was dark and cold...
Ryosuke pouted, "not fair..."
Taiyou had followed him and snapped, "Transform...now..."
Ryosuke sighed, "I know...I know..." there was something special about Chinen-san but what...he shook himself and muttered, "Starburst Transformation..." he glowed in the darkness as his school uniform went away and his Sailor warrrior uniform shimmering into sight. He stepped into the fray slightly shaking, "Hey you...monster...I don't enjoy studying or being forced to but using a special tutoring class to trap students and drain their energy is unforgiveable. I am supposed stand for love, justice and peace...but you make me take a stand for the right to study. That is not fair...in the name of the life-giving sun I will punish you..."
"Silence...I serve the shadow empire...and you will give me energy...or you will die..." the monster looked like a scholor but far uglier and wicked.
Ryosuke dodged a bunch of scrolls and landed near Chinen-san in time to hear him scream once more...
Taiyou blinked as blue light shone from the boy and the kanji for water glowed on his forehead, "The Sailor warrior...of the water...Sailor Mercury..." he leapt at the scroll imprisoning one of the boys he was charged with protecting, "Chinen-san..." he bite the scroll severing it hold on the boy, he kicked a pin into Chinen's hand, "protect Sailor Sun..."
Chinen stared, by the rules of nature...dogs can't talk but this one knew his name, "What....why are you talking..."
Taiyou growled, "We'll discuss it later...just say, 'planet of water...give me your strength...transform..."
Chii held the pin tightly, it was worth the experiment... "Planet of water...give me your strength...transform..." his carefully pressed uniform shimmered away, water swirled around his body. He felt a wave of deja vu flow through him as he assumed a outfit...that haunted his deepest dreams...blue short shorts with a navy blue ruffle, a girls' uniform top with a blue hankercheif, blue kneehigh shiny leather boots that made him taller. "Sailor Sun...I'm here.." he ran to stand before the other warrior; damn he was cute...and why did he look so much like Ninomiya Ryosuke? "Wave..." blue light flowed from his hands, becoming a wall of water that crashed onto the monster severing its links to the other students, "Now Sailor Sun..." why did he think that the other Sailor warrior could make it go away?
Ryosuke stood behind Chinen, no wonder he trusted him...he must have known somehow that the other boy was a warrior and could be trusted...plus he wa so cute... he shookc himself and yelled pointing a finger at him, "Now...I will punish you...for hurting people...Solar Ray..."
The monster screamed as the ray of light cut through the wall of water and pierced its heart, "No..."
A dark figure shimmered, "Two Sailor warriors? Beware...you have thwarted us and angered me...I will punish you both...Yoko of the Shadow Empire has spoken..." it disappeared as quickly as it came...
Chinen fell to his knees, monsters weren't real...he could control water? He'd always felt connected to it...but he was a water user? Those were just stories...there were legends that when earth was in its greatest peril warriors would emerge to protect it. The warriors never borne names...their elements were named though...but they were fables...but the pin didn't support that...
Taiyou nudged them, "We need to talk...now..." he had a lot of explaining to do...and he wasn't looking forward to it...
They stepped away from the class of students that were awakening, a little groggy from their ordeal but little else...
Ryosuke's uniform reappeared and so did Chinen's...
Chinen blurted out, "Ninomiya-san..." it WAS Ninomiya Ryosuke...but why...was this why he felt a type of connection with the failing student...
Ryosuke blushed, "Yeah...but don't tell anyone...those warrior outfits are hideous...I don't want anyone to know its me..." he hated being a warrior...
Taiyou pushed them, "Come on..."
They hurried back to Ryosuke's home...nodding at his parents...
Ryosuke grabbed Taiyou and then Chinen's hand, "Mama...papa...this is my assigned tutor at school...Chinen Yuri...he's helping me pass math..." then he dragged the other boy and the dog to his room.
When the door was shut, Taiyou leapt from Ryosuke's arms to the bed, "I'm here to guide and teach the sailor warriors. Ryosuke was awakened as the Sailor of the Sun while Chinen, you were awakened as the Sailor of Water, protected by the Planet Mercury...known in ancient times as Water Star..."
Chinen stared at the pin in his hand, "It's hard to believe...but I seem to be a water user...I want to protect him...I don't know why but I had too..."
Taiyou blinked, was this boy sensing already that Ryosuke was the Solar Prince? And that that was why he manifested starlight powers? They weren't supposed to know that until the Solar Prince was reawakened...sure this was not the first time they had been reborn or awakened...how much of his past memories did Chinen have? The monster were getting stronger...who knew who much power they would need to defeat this evil...
Ryosuke hugged Chinen, "Yay...I'm not the only one who has to wear that outfit..."
Chinen blinked and then awkwardly hugged him back, "I guess I'm here to stay..." he felt a soft warmth in his heart, was this friendship? He'd growned up with servants caring for him and cram school...he never had much time to make friends. He had always craved friends...
Ryosuke grinned as the cute Sailor of Water, hugged him back, "Yuri-chan...lets always be friends..." he wanted to be sure that if they had to fight evil again that he wouldn't be alone...
Chinen nodded, "Friends...that...sounds...wonderful..."
Ryosuke smirked inside, maybe...he wouldn't flunk so much...having a genius as a friend...surely he could manage to pass if they had tutoring sessions...
Taiyou sensed someone and glanced out the window...he saw a rose glistening in the moonlight and the flash of a green dress...was someone following them?
The Rose Protectress kissed the blue rose and dropped it, "Sailor Sun...you have found one of your fellow warriors. I look forward to watching you grow into your powers..."
Taiyou recognized the hair and something clicked inside his mind, of course...if the Solar Prince returned the Princess of the Earth would as well...would they marry as the prophecy dictated? Who was she? The Earth Princess had taken what form? Surely...she wouldn't remember who she was...Ryosuke didn't...
Ryosuke moved to the window, "Taiyou...who is out there..." all he saw was a blue rose...roses weren't blue right?
Chinen spotted the rose, "I don't think its owner is out to harm us..."
Taiyou sent a beam of light from his sun mark to Chinen's water mark, "You have dreams...you have flashes of the past and future..."
Chinen blushed, a talking dog knew his secret...
Taiyou broke the connection, "Listen to your dreams..." he nosed a small calculator looking this to the boy, "This is a special laptop...only you can use. Record anything you dream as well as sense...they will help us defeat the shadow empire..."
Ryosuke pouted, why didn't he get anything cool...Chinen got a laptop...and dreams...and a cool wall of water and he got...a ray of light?
Chinen nodded, "I'll do my best...it is my duty to protect Earth and Sailor Sun..." he always did what he had to do...
Taiyou watched the newest member of their team leave...Ryosuke had fallen asleep...hopefully Chinen would be a good influence on Ryosuke...he needed to learn to apply himself more...
