... they just go fallow for awhile.

So I've seen The Amazing Spider-Man twice now and each time I see it I come out grinning ear to ear. And wanting more Spidey - immediately ( Read more... )

digistardbz saw it first before I did. Like me, she went in with low expectations, and was pleasantly surprised. I went to go see it with my BFF/co-worker and I genuinely liked it.

The way I see ASM is about the way I saw 'Green Lantern': Was it perfect? Nope. Was it fun? Yes.Andrew Garfield did grate on my nerves in the first half of the movie, but once the character of Peter started to grow a little more into the role of Spider-Man, I think Garfield became a lot more comfortable. I actually did like that this Spider-Man was a lot more "snarkier", so to speak, than in the Raimi flicks ( ... )

It was when it dawned on me that JJJ was not going to be making an appearance that the Batman Begins comparison came to my mind.

Because Jameson is a very cartoony character. By his very nature he's VERY over the top and that didn't really fit with the world they'd created.

Captain Stacy, for all of him being played by Denise Leary, is not over the top - he's actually very realistic.

Oh yes. Having JJJ in the movie would have quickly complicated things. I half expected Peter to sell the photos he was taking of the Lizard to the Daily Bugle, but once Connors destroyed the camera, I did an inward "YES".

Captain Stacy came off as being very believable in my eyes. I can see why he'd act the way he did. Unlike the cartoonish antagonism of JJJ, Stacy's reactions were something you could honestly see a chief of police taking. It frustrates us, the viewer, that he'd be against Spider-Man; but seeing things from his perspective, it makes sense, imo.

And it's those little things that made me like the movie more than I thought I would.

Oh hrmmm . . . I hadn't wanted to see this movie; the reviews really DON'T make it seems appealing. None of the actors struck me as, well, *likeable*. But your approval is making me wonder if I should re-think that.

I LOVED Avengers, thought both Iron Man movies were good, Thor was good but would have been better if they'd left the cut bits in and in their original order, Captain America was sorta eh, and Hulk (the Norton version) was kinda bad. . . . think I'd like the new Spidey?

(I have a VERY limited budget right now and I'd hate to waste money that could be spent on seeing Avengers one more time . . or, y'know, buying food or something . . on a movie I ended up not liking. I'm still bitter about Cabin In The Woods.)

Oy - you're really gonna put me on the spot aren't you? No pressure ;)

Well, when I went the second time I took a friend who hadn't seen it yet, although he had seen/read some negative reviews and he enjoyed it (in fact he liked it more than Spidey 1). He said it wasn't "OMG AMAZING" but it was much better than he'd been lead to believe.

There's been a lot of criticism about how they dressed Peter. He's not done up in stereotypical "nerd" clothes as he is normally portrayed. He's not in a sweater vest - he's got messy hair, he wears hoodies with thumb holes in the sleeves so he can pull them down over his hands, and yes, he has a skateboard ( ... )

What did you not like about Cabin In The Woods?

I thought the premise and the set-up were VERY interesting and unique.

I wasn't crazy about the ending but I have to acknowledge that they'd kinda written themselves into a corner and neither ending was really going to be 100% satisfactory. either it was going to have a "happy" ending while breaking their own rules or, well, we were going to get the ending we got.

And it's Joss Whedon - he likes to screw around like that sometimes.
I don't like it when he does - I think he tries to be "shocking" for the sake of being "shocking" and although it WAS shocking the first time he pulled some of that stuff now I go "Oh, it's Whedon being moody again"
