Home inspection?

Can anyone recommend a good home inspector who works in the Boston area? I'm looking at a fixer-upper, and I'd like to get a solid home inspection before I make any decisions one way or the other.

Could a reliable realtor provide you with some names?

Good thought. I also got a tip from a FB friend of mine -- there's a company named Boston Home Inspectors, that he'd had a good experience with previously.

For a fixer-upper, at least in this case, it seems wiser to get a home inspection before I make an offer, right? Just so I have a good sense of how much repair and income I'll have to sink into it, and can adjust my potential offer accordingly.

Oh, definitely! You'd be foolish to wait, even though traditionally the offer is conditional upon passing a building inspection. But that would be a house in apparantly good condition to begin with. And you certainly don't want to tip your hand on how much you want to offer for it before knowing whether or not it will be a money pit. 'Cuz, even if it IS one, then you can use that as leverage in your bid.
