I can understand the sentiment of "why are you punishing those who aren't responsible when those who are get away free?", but I still feel like this gentleman and other like him and seriously lacking in perspective.

And, yeah, I agree with you - if he can give away $72,000 and not end up starving on the street, he really doesn't have much chance of understanding why there's so much outrage about the value of these bonuses.

The thing is, he's not giving away $72,000 -- he's giving away $720,000. My $72k number was based on the Congressional plan of taxing any excessive bonuses like that at a rate of 90%.

If Congress were to take 90% of that, he'd still have $72,000 for a year's effort -- a hell of a lot more than the vast majority of the country takes home on average and survives on.

Seriously. Frankly, as a person who makes quite a bit less than 20K a year, anyone who bitches about making anything more than 50K in bonuses alone can fuck off.

*nods* I'm in the middle of doing my taxes, and my annual income is substantially below his "oh noes, I'm only getting 10% of my bonus" amount. Around 2/3rds, in fact. *scowl*

Exactly.

I mean, I get that it sucks that your bonus is less than you expected or even possibly deserved, but in this economy, everyone suffers. And if your suffering basically means that boo hoo, you're going to have to go shopping at Target like the rest of us and maybe cut your dinners out to one or two times a week, then you really should suck it up and quit whining about it.

dabagirls.com -- Have you seen this site yet? This shit is RIDICULOUS. I know that it's supposed to be funny and whatever, but it totally annoys me.

... o.O *stares at dabagirls.com in disbelief* That's just... very wrong. Then again, I always wanted to beat Sex and the City's vapid posturings with a wiffle bat too... *grin*

It's probably unfair that these guys are taking the heat of the public's anger over the economy. But then, I know people who worked plenty of 10-14 hour days and instead of a $72,000 bonus, they got let go. Life's not fair.

I really doubt this guy's going to be hitting up Craigslist every day, trying to find any kind of paid work. To me, that letter just feels like a big ~*FLOUNCE*~.

I know! No doubt he'll take a vacation or something, then eventually get picked up by some other financial firm or the like. *eyeroll*

... although I'm not sure "acted like an overprivileged emo drama queen" is something that goes well on a resume. *evil grin*
