Regarding NaNoWriMo...

I've actually got a couple of ideas this year. For those who have done NaNoWriMo before, would you say it's a wise choice to spend time ahead of November outlining and laying out how one's proposed story is to go? Because I've tried the whole "I've got an idea and I'm just going to jump right in!" approach, and that didn't go so well. *grin*

The only time I've ever finished it, I'd done nothing beforehand at all. I don't think I even had an idea...

But then I've tried I think four times and only finished once. Did 40k another time, same principle. Once barely got started.

The other time I had a lot of info and notes because it was a total redraft of an earlier story, but I only did a few thousand words.

It's probably different for everyone though.

I've done both, and the only time I didn't finish was when I got interrupted by the birth of my oldest daughter - the first year I even *did* NaNoWriMo. BTW, is your screen name over there the same as here? I'm always interested in adding writing buddies. LOL

I haven't actually signed up at the site yet. But yes, I was planning on using this LJ's name -- it seems to be fairly unique out there. : )

This year I am planning ahead but I have to admit that my NaNo idea is pretty cracktastic. I "finished" NaNo last year in that I made it to 50k but I didn't finish the story, so I'm hoping that having a plot outlined will mean that I finish in BOTH ways.
