I think they have the chance to be the most positive and lasting teen romance on the show given some time, and that there ARE relationships in high school that last longer than five minutes, as the experiences of some of my friends will show - I also think that Puck and Lauren are perfectly realistic and lovely, and Finchel have broken up exactly once, and that what we're seeing with the shipping is a show that has become largely about the relationships everyone engages in while still remaining realistic to the fact that teenagers are kind of ridic sometimes. Which is fine and dandy, but it leaves everyone feeling narratively unsatisfied, and GLBT kids at once deserve to be normalized on TV like everyone else but also to see that hey, they can actually be happy and stuff, and that's one of the many reasons why I want K/B to last and I'm glad they have a solid foundation

I get a little annoyed at people who say that Finn/Rachel drama is unrealistic or whatever or a sign that they aren't a good couple. It isn't my favorite pairing, but obviously their romance is a central focus of the show and they have to fill that relationship with conflict in order to sustain it. I won't say they have done it particularly well, but I will concede that it was a narrative necessity.
I feel the same way about Kurt/Blaine, tbh. If their relationship is going to be a major plotline on the show, they aren't going to get together easily and be blissfully adorable with lots of screentime. Otherwise, Glee would be the Mike/Tina show.
So, I agree that positive portrayals are necessary and I really hope we get some good "power couple" time from them when/if they get their act together, but I don't think it has to be conflict free to be a positive portrayal, you know?
