Can I make a suggestion/comment? I've been a mod on several different fic-focused communities and since you're doing away with the author tag, I'd suggest adding memories by author. That way, people will still be able to see who wrote what but it'll be in the memories instead. I know that means a bit more work for the moderators of this lovely community with the meming they'd have to do every day but if people are worried about not being able to find their favourite authors, they could look in the memories instead. Feel free to ignore this if you think it isn't a viable option. =)
Other than that, I love the changes and I think it's a good to change things for the better of the community.
THAT I didn't of when I was trying to find something else. I'll discuss it with the other mods.
I looked at doing memories, and while it would have fixed the problem of having so many tags, it wouldn't help with how much time it was taking up and how active comm is, so that was why I didn't go with that one.
is it just me or when I use the search box, it only brings up public entries, and nothing that was f-locked to the community? (I checked and I am logged in)
It's quite possible that it is. The Yandex search that LJ uses is nowhere near perfect, but was the only one I was able to find that filtered out comments and mentions of usernames from post authors.
This is totally reasonable, but when are you doing it? I've been saving and referencing people over here by author tag and will need a day or two to get my act together - is this a TONIGHT OMG CLEAN IT UP NOOOOOOW kind of thing?
Only thing I'm worried about, is that I just searched my name on the sidebar search and it only came up with two of my stories...and I know for a fact that I've posted over 15 stories on this comm...
If that happens to me what's going to happen to people who have posted 30+ stories?
The search feature isn't perfect, and I can't do much more with it than what I've done, which is why I suggested creating a master list on your own journal that can direct people to your fic. That's really a more permanent solution, then people can just check your journal and find your other fics (tho I do realize that some people don't like to have fic linked to their journal, so...)
That seemed to find 15 entries for you. Not sure if that's all of them, but maybe there's some way we can put that link in the sidebar for people to adapt for searches? It's a little less convenient than typing into a search bar, but it's a bit more accurate.
