Summary: The perfect dream. The perfect life. Or what happens when Kurt and Blaine realize that everyday life continues once your dreams come true.

Author’s Note: So this is the third story in the "Chance" series. You'll need to have read An Accidental Chance and Chances Are for this one to make any sense. For a long time, I said that I was done with this verse. I had burned myself out and wasn't sure I wanted to come back to it, no matter how much I love it. Finally, after much discussion with my betas and an itch to write something, I decided that was going to come back here, to finish out Kurt and Blaine's story in this verse. I mean, Cooper Anderson didn't even exist when I started writing these!! :D

There's a lot(I mean A LOT)of meta here. Fandom tropes, in jokes, and real life cast member events may be twisted to suit my purposes for this fic (except for what happened with Cory. That will not happen in any way in this verse and Finn is very much alive, if in the background, for those that need that warning). As a whole, it's largely an AU of season four. Warnings and ratings may vary by chapter.

If you want progress updates, or want to leave me a prompt for this verse, my tumblr is here. I am tentatively accepting prompts again, so hit me up!

So many, many thanks to imaginentertain, star55 and echoing-seas for being my betas on this, including imaginentertain betaing right in my living room while she was on vacation. You gals are the best. <3

In Depth:

This week we sat down with the new guy on the set of New York Life, Chandler Keihl.

I: Tell us a little bit about yourself - is this your first job?

CK: It is! *bounces a little in his chair* I was headed to NYU and I saw the open casting call for Thomas and got the part. Totally not what I expected, but C’est La vie!

I: How’s it been working with the cast?

CK: Amazing! They’re really great guys and they’ve made me feel so at home, I can’t even.

I: You’re originally from Lima, Ohio, right? What’s it been like moving to New York?

CK: Like a dream! I’ve known for years this is where I wanted to be and now here I am! I met Blaine’s boyfriend, Kurt Hummel, at a store called Between the Sheets back in Ohio and it’s been really nice to have someone here that I already know.

I: Can you tell us anything upcoming for Thomas and James?

CK: *Laughs* Nope, ‘cause then I’d have to kill ya, don’tcha know.

*screams* who is this dude, I MEAN REALLY. #he should be sued for abuse of the exclamation point

DID HE SAY HE KNEW KURT FROM BETWEEN THE SHEETS IS THAT A SEX REFERENCE WHAT THE FUCK?

And cue freak out

You guys are all insane, there’s no way he and Kurt... *shudders* I CAN’T EVEN THINK IT OMG

That’s a mental image that makes my brain bleed, why would you even suggest that?

YOU GUYS, TAKE A PILL. Between the Sheets is a music store in Lima, down the road from the Lima Bean, that coffee shop Kurt and Blaine like. Jeez.

And sanity returns.

WAIT THAT’S THE NAME OF THE MUSIC STORE AND THE COFFEE SHOP? ROAD TRIP TO LIMA, WHO’S WITH ME?

Just once, I want to name something ridiculous.

Blaine tossed down the magazine with the Chandler interview, relishing the smack as it landed in the trash can at the edge of the set.

“What’s up with you, dude?” Jeff asked as they headed back to their trailers to shower off their hair and makeup. Normally, Blaine would wait until he got home, but tonight he was delaying that as much as possible. He was trying so hard not to take his issues out on Kurt.

Nick bounced up along his other side. “Yeah, you’re acting like someone died or something.”

Blaine didn’t say anything for a moment.

“Oh, God, nobody died, did they?” Jeff gasped.

“No, no one died,” Blaine muttered. “I’m just going through some family stuff.”

“We should go out!” Nick suggested, bouncing on his feet. “Get your mind off things. Jeff and I know just the place - they don’t card and they’re very discreet, if you know what I mean.”

Blaine gave him a long look - go out? On a work night? With Kurt at home?

The idea sounded amazing though - to take a few hours and escape from his life and have fun with his friends without any worries. He wouldn’t have to think about his parents or Cooper or how much it hurt that Kurt was on their side.

“Sounds good,” Blaine said. “I’m in.”

Nick and Jeff slapped a high five and Blaine laughed as they headed into their trailers to shower and change.

*

Kurt was in a frenzy. He’d been running around since he got home, changing his hair and slipping into one of his better tuxes - he and Rachel had both scored coveted golden tickets to the Winter Showcase at NYADA and the performance was just an hour away.

Blaine had promised him that he’d meet him there, and Kurt was hopeful that nothing ran late on set so Blaine wouldn’t miss his performance. This was a huge, huge thing that would happen tonight for Kurt - so many important people would be in the audience and he couldn’t afford to mess this up.

He dashed out the door, hailing a cab to pick up Rachel. He crossed his fingers that they’d make it without any issues as the cab went through the darkened New York streets.

*

The bar was loud, music pouring through the front entrance. There was a long line of people waiting to be let in and Blaine went to get at the back of the line. Nick shook his head and put his hands on Blaine’s shoulders, steering him toward the front, where a guy stood with a clipboard.

“Name?” the guy said in a bored tone.

“Blaine Anderson,” Blaine replied. He checked something off on his list and waved them inside.

“See, it’s that easy,” Jeff told him. “Let’s hit the bar.”

*

Kurt paced anxiously through the lobby, calling Blaine repeatedly and getting no answer. Rachel was staring at him with a worried gaze and Finn had an ear to the door in the showcase room, so he could let Kurt know when it was his turn.

Rachel had already performed, stunning in a white gown. She’d blown everyone away, getting a standing ovation and a chance at a second song. Kurt would have to go up soon and Blaine wasn’t there yet and he was freaking out.

Now Blaine wasn’t even answering his phone.

“Kurt, relax,” Rachel said, attempting to calm him down. “You can do this. I’m sure Blaine just got held up at work.”

“I know, I just…” Kurt trailed off. He’d really wanted Blaine to be there.

“Dude, they just called you,” Finn said, tucking his hands in his pants pockets. He’d cleaned up nicely in a dark suit.

Kurt’s eyes went wide as the three of them scurried up the stairs into the showcase room. Kurt took a deep breath and strode to the front. He turned around, glancing at Rachel before relaxing.

“Hi, my name is Kurt Hummel, and tonight I’ll be singing ‘Being Alive’ from Company.”

*

Blaine had lost track of how many drinks he’d had. It was glorious, to be surrounded by his friends on the dance floor, losing himself to music. There was no one there to judge him, no one there to make him feel like shit for just living his life and doing the things he wanted to do. There was no brother worming his way in and acting like it was a miracle they’d been reunited.

Blaine was in heaven.

“I love you guys,” Blaine slurred, draping himself over Jeff’s shoulders. “I love everyone in this bar!” he turned around and shouted at the dancing crowd.

“I think it’s time to go,” Nick said, leading Blaine over to the door to get their coats. “You’ve had enough.”

“I had one beer,” Blaine giggled.

“Sure you did,” Jeff replied, helping Blaine into his coat. The three of them made their way outside, heading down the busy street, passed the crowd still waiting to get in.

“I wanna live here,” Blaine mumbled. “I wanna live here and make art and help people.”

“The only thing you’ll be doing right now is making fires with your breath,” Nick told him, hailing a cab. One stopped after a moment and the three of them climbed in. Nick gave the cab driver Blaine’s address and they sped off. Blaine stared out the window and thought he’d never seen anything more beautiful than the blurring lights of the New York skyline.

Kurt had been asleep for a few hours by the time he registered Blaine crawling into bed.

“Blaine?” Kurt's voice was high, slightly whiny with sleep.

“Kurt, Kurt,” Blaine said, moving closer. Kurt caught a whiff of Blaine’s breath and cracked open his eyes. Blaine smelled like a brewery. “My pretty Kurt.”

“Blaine,” Kurt replied, sitting up. “Are you drunk?”

“I had one beer, Kurt,” Blaine told him.

“You had a hell of a lot more than one,” Kurt snapped. “Jesus, Blaine. I needed you tonight and you were out getting drunk. That’s great.”

“Don’t,” Blaine said, getting angry. “Don’t be like that, Kurtie. Life sucks.”

“I know it does, Blaine, especially when your boyfriend misses extremely important events. But you can’t just go out and get drunk whenever you want. How did you even pull that off? You’re underage!”

“The boys,” Blaine shrugged. Kurt sighed. Nick and Jeff. He might have known.

“I’ll have some choice words for them too,” he fumed. “God, did you even think? You knew how much tonight meant to me. How could you do this?”

“Tonight?” Blaine asked, his voice low and mumbled. “Oh no.” Kurt could see his face light up with realization. “Kurt, I’m so…”

He trailed off went Kurt held up a hand to silence him. “Save it,” Kurt said, suddenly tired. He got up, and moved around to Blaine’s side of the bed. “Lie down,” Kurt instructed Blaine, nudging Blaine gently onto his back. He set to work taking off Blaine’s shoes and socks, before moving up to lift off Blaine’s shirt. Kurt paused at the waist band of Blaine’s jeans, but then decided they should ultimately come off too. If Blaine was sick during the night or in the morning, he wouldn’t want to be wearing designer clothes.

Kurt slid the jeans down Blaine’s legs, leaving his boyfriend clad in just boxers.

“Kurt,” Blaine drawled, grabbing for Kurt’s hand and pulling him closer.

“You need to sleep it off, Blaine,” Kurt said. “I’ll go get a trash can, okay?”

“No, no, don't leave. Stay,” Blaine murmured. “Stay.” He tugged and Kurt let Blaine move him onto the bed. Blaine leaned up, pressing a sudden kiss to Kurt’s lips, his arms wrapping around Kurt’s neck, pulling him downward on top of Blaine.

Kurt broke the kiss with a gasp, trying not to focus on how interested he was in Blaine’s kisses south of the Equator. “Blaine, stop it!” Kurt hissed. “I don’t want this.”

“I miss you,” Blaine said, sounding sad. “Miss you.”

“I miss you, too,” Kurt replied, “But if you think this is happening tonight you are seriously deluded. You probably wouldn’t even remember it anyway!” he shouted, trying not to cry.

Kurt slid away, getting off the bed and heading for the bathroom, ignoring Blaine’s pained whimper at his words. He found a trashcan and picked it up, along with aspirin and a bottle of water from the kitchen. He put the water and medicine on the night stand and the trash can on the floor next to the bed.

Blaine let out a soft snore, already a sleep. Kurt sighed, staring down at Blaine for a long moment. He didn’t know how to help him. It seemed like Blaine was coming apart at the seams.

Kurt sighed again and then moved around the bed, climbing inside gently. He turned on his side, away from Blaine, and fell into a restless sleep.

Blaine Anderson and others from the cast of New York Life party it up.(Via Daltonfan)

OMFG what is this?

Are they… is Blaine drunk?

HE WANTS TO MAKE ART AND HELP PEOPLE, LET ME LOVE YOU BLAINE ANDERSON.

I can’t believe this. I’ve just lost all respect for him. He went out and got drunk! He’s underage. What kind of role model is he?

JFC, seriously people? He went out and had a few drinks with the cast. Yeah, he’s underage, but it’s not like he went on a bender or killed someone.

Oh God, wank. #hides

STAY AWAY FROM THE PAP WEBSITES, OMG. THE ARTICLES THAT ARE BEING WRITTEN RIGHT NOW. #cries

Am I the only one who wants to cuddle him right now? Please say I’m not.

#I kind of want to write fic where he went home and had drunk!sex with Kurt #don’t judge me #off to the Dalton Kink Meme

“Good morning sunshine!” A bright voice chirped. Kurt groaned blinking open his eyes. He saw the woman standing at the end of the bed and pulled the covers up to his neck with a gasp.

“Blaine,” he said, shaking Blaine’s shoulder to wake him. Blaine made muffled grumbling noises.

“What?”

“Why is Julie standing at the foot of our bed?” Kurt asked. He was suddenly regretting agreeing to the give the woman a key, if she was going to turn up unannounced like this.

Blaine sat up suddenly and then groaned.

“That’s right pretty boy, I hope you feel like shit,” Julie said.

“Not right now, Jules,” Blaine snapped, rubbing his eyes. Kurt almost felt bad for him but then he remembered how Blaine had been the night before - drunk and skipping his performance - and all his sympathy fled. Blaine deserved to feel like crap.

“Put some clothes on, take some aspirin and get your asses into the living room,” Julie ordered, clearly not taking any of Blaine’s crap. Kurt sighed.

“Why?” Blaine asked, sounding like a petulant child. “What’s so important you had to let yourself into our house and into our bedroom?”

She glared at him and Blaine cowered a little. Kurt found himself shrinking back as well.
“Damage control.”

Another Teen Idol Out of Control?

Blaine Anderson, of Dalton and now New York Life fame, was spotted leaving a night club in Manhattan last night with friends. The normally squeaky clean singer/actor was clearly drunk. At first glance, it seems like just a night of teenage revelry, but is it more?

A source close to the set seems to think it is.

“Blaine’s been really out of character lately,” the source claims. “Real quiet and keeping to himself on set. A lot of his scenes have had to be shot multiple times because the directors can’t get what they want from him.”
The source goes further, even saying, “We’re worried about him. He’s showing classic symptoms of depression and it seems like this could be a cry for help.”

Rumors of family drama have been in news lately for Blaine, as he was recently reunited with his long-lost brother, Cooper Anderson. Could this be the reason for his downward spiral?

We hope not. Blaine is a beloved teen idol and a role model to so many kids.

Let’s pray he’s not headed the way of Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan or Amanda Bynes.

*

“Oh, God,” Blaine moaned, holding his head in one hand has squinted at the laptop screen. “This is bad. This is really, really bad.”

“I’d slap you for stating the obvious,” Julie replied, “but I’m sure your head hurts enough as it is.”

“What are we going to do Jules?” Blaine turned to her, feeling helpless. He’d really screwed up. All those kids who’d looked up to him - he’d let them down.

“Well, we’re going to start with doing some interviews,” Julie said. “I’ve got a few scheduled over the next week or so.” Blaine nodded. “I’ve already talked with the Powers that Be over at NYL and they said they’d be happy to do some PSAs with you, Jeff and Nick.”

“Sounds good,” Blaine whispered quietly.

“Then you and Kurt will wow them at Trevor Live and show them how much in love you are,” Julie continued. Blaine glanced at Kurt, who turned away suddenly, facing the stove where he was making pancakes for breakfast. Blaine only hoped he could eat them with his rolling stomach. He also hoped that Kurt would forgive him for his behavior.

Blaine couldn’t lose him now - he needed Kurt too much. He’d never get through this without him.

“And I suggest that you work out whatever issues you have with Cooper and your family, Blaine, because it’s affecting your work. The Blaine I know would have never gone out to a bar, gotten drunk and let himself get caught on camera.” She paused, taking a deep breath. “Remember what happened the last time you let your emotions get in the way of your career,” Julie warned.

Kurt abruptly turned back around and stared at him. Blaine couldn’t help but look sheepish.

“What is she talking about, Blaine?” Kurt asked softly.

“Sweetcheeks here almost got himself fired back when you two were broken up,” Julie answered for him. “He was a wreck.”

Kurt’s mouth fell open in shock. Blaine hadn’t told him about that - he’d never wanted Kurt to know how bad it had been.

“We’ll figure it out,” Kurt promised her, sounding firm. Guilt flared through Blaine again, pounding in his chest in time with the pounding of his head. He’d messed up big time, hurt Kurt by missing his show and then, oh God, the attempt at sex afterward. Blaine didn’t know how much more of this he could take. He wanted to separate himself from his own skin and disappear.

All that and Kurt still wanted to work things out. Blaine had no idea how he’d gotten so lucky to find someone like him. He sighed and nodded at Julie. They would work it out. Blaine would not let this come between him and Kurt, not if he could help it.

“Good,” Julie said, getting up and snapping her laptop shut. “Now do me a favor and lay low the next few days.”

“We will,” Blaine told her.

“I’ll be in touch,” she finished, picking up her briefcase and slipping the laptop inside. “I’ll see myself out.”

The room was silent after she left and Blaine stared at Kurt, wondering how to bridge the sudden gap between them.
