I've just had an e-mail from BAFTA (they have a mailing list of film events going on in London). Apparently this year Robert Redford is curating a special event:
Sundance London 2012 The Sundance Film Festival is an annual film festival that takes place in Park City, Utah. Started in 1978 by the actor and director Robert Redford, it was initially planned as a way to showcase American independent cinema. It has since grown and developed into the largest independent film festival in the United States and shows films from all around the world.
Each year over 6,000 films are submitted to The Sundance Film Festival. Each one is watched and from the 6,000, just 120 are picked to play at the festival in Park City. From the 120 that will be shown at The Sundance Film Festival in January 2012, 14 will be specially selected and brought to Sundance London. Buying a film package now guarantees you will get to see the films you want when we announce them early next year. Follow us on Twitter (SundancefestUK) or subscribe to The O2’s newsletter via the subscribe button for the latest updates!
In addition to the great films that we’ll be showing during Sundance London, there will also be some unique opportunities to attend Panels and hear guest speakers talk about the part they play in making films, documentaries and the role of music in modern cinema as well as the chance to get a sense of one of Sundance’s signature ‘Labs’.
source **PLEASE NOTE: I have NO idea if Struck By Lightning' is going to be included in the films coming over here (and there is still a big "if" as to whether it is going to go to the 'real' Sundance). This is only going to be a selection of the films from this year's event.**
But I for one will certainly be keeping a close eye on the website....
(There is an early-bird £175-plus-booking-fee pass which includes 10 films/panels tickets and gives you priority for booking, however personally, that is too much money for me to gamble on something that may not happen - although I am certain there will be lots of interesting films in the selection...)
