“I know a shortcut.”

Blaine watched as the new kid-Kurt-opened and closed his mouth a little, and gripped his hand a little tighter, squeezing it reassuringly, before tugging him down the last step and leading him around them, towards the next hallway. He would have been lying to himself if he’d said that his heart hadn’t skipped a beat at the sight of those sky-blue eyes and the pale, delicate and perfectly handsome face that had stopped him to ask what was going on.

Maybe he’d even taken the long route on purpose, going around the corridor before finally going into the choir room. Kurt’s face was all awe as he pushed the doors open, and walked in, stomach twisting a little nervously as he turned to look at him as Kurt let out a low whistle. “Wow, I stick out like a sore thumb.”

Blaine let out a soft laugh and reached over to pat the lapel of his coat. “Next time, don’t forget your jacket, new kid.” He winked, playing it off as suave, though he felt a little lightheaded at the smile Kurt gave him in return. “Now, if you’ll excuse me,” he said, as the Warblers around him started harmonizing the first notes to ‘Teenage Dream’.

“Before you met me, I was alright but things were kinda heavy...” Sebastian’s voice rang out clear and sexy as he stepped in front of the Warblers, assuming his role as lead, and Blaine followed suit, turning around, harmonizing along with the rest as he came in on the ‘oohs’ for the second verse, stepping next to Sebastian.

“Every February, you’ll be my Valentine.”

Blaine’s eyes glanced over at Sebastian, as the Warblers did, to follow their lead-that was how they worked-to gauge when he’d be singing the next line, and caught a sparkle in his eye as the lead boy’s mouth curved up at the side.

“Valentine.” Heart stilling for a beat, almost messing up his vocals, Blaine followed Sebastian’s gaze over to where his eyes were trained on the new boy, on Kurt-who was looking up at their lead with a mixture of awe and adoration on his face, clearly flushed.

And, characteristically enough, Sebastian went for it, leaving their two-step to walk over to Kurt on the next line, ‘let’s go all the way tonight’, winking at him, stopping to bring his feet together as the rest of the Warblers did the same, Blaine watching Kurt miserably from between Wes and David.

“You and I, we’ll be young forever!”

They went into the chorus animatedly, giving all into their performance, as usual, Sebastian pumping his fist at his side as he danced with them, leading them naturally, his cool and confident manner making everybody respect him automatically, and Kurt’s eyes never left his face until they were finished, and everybody dissolved in loud clapping and cheering, hugging each other.

Blaine glanced over at Kurt, though, licking his lips, eyebrows raised with a flicker of hope that maybe he still had a chance, to find Sebastian already standing in front of him. “Sebastian Smyth,” the taller one greeted him, sticking out his hand. Kurt blushed prettily, like he had done on the staircase; he didn’t seem to get many boys greeting him. “Kurt,” he repeated.

Taking a breath, still a little bated from singing, Blaine lingered at the side, pretending to be immersed in a conversation with Wes while glancing over at the other two every couple of seconds, watching them interact, the way Sebastian did nothing to hide the way his eyes were roving over the younger boy, or how Kurt kept giggling nervously and adjusting the strap of his bag on his shoulder.

“Blaine.”

Snapping his head back to Wes, Blaine raised his eyebrows questioningly, before Wes nodded over at where Kurt and Sebastian were still talking, damn him. “Yeah?”

“Who’s the kid?” David asked, lowering his voice so only Blaine would hear. He shrugged a little and stuffed his hands in the pockets of his blazer.

“Coming to spy on us, I think,” he admitted. “I think he’s from another showchoir group.” David and Wes snickered. “Didn’t he read the uniform policy?” Wes asked, and David nudged him.

“It’s cute,” he cooed a little, and raised an eyebrow. “And Sebastian seems to like him.”

Blaine was instantly, irrationally annoyed. “Yes, well. I still think we should talk to him, as people who don’t just want to get into his pants.”

Wes raised an eyebrow at him but said nothing. “As a member of the council, I certainly agree. What do you say, Warbler David?”

The other nodded, squaring his shoulders and patting at the back of Blaine’s shoulder, just as Sebastian winked at Kurt and turned on the spot, walking away. Blaine nodded. “Yeah, okay.”
