Katajanokka? Hyvin vähän, kadut ovat siellä kapeita eikä kauniista taloista oikein saa kuvia. Uspenskin katedraalista on useitakin kuvia, kaikilta vuoden- ja kellonajoilta.
And the same in English, just in case ;) I have very few pictures of Katajanokka as the streets are so narrow that it's very difficult to take any pictures of the pretty houses there (I don't have a wide angle lens, more's the pity). I've got many pictures of Uspenski Cathedral, in all seasons and times of the day though, and some random shots taken while IN Katajanokka and facing some other direction.
Oh yes, Americans will create planters out of old tires, though the more common style here involves cutting the tire so it makes a sort of urn with a petalled edge. They are often whitewashed. I even found a tutorial! I always imagined it was purely American. It's reassuring to be reminded that we don't have a monopoly on bad taste.
I can't think of any advantages of planting potatoes in a tyre compared to the same dirt WITHOUT the tyre. There must be some aesthetic aspect I'm not getting here...
Especially now that they've found a million and one ways to recycle tyres and there's no need to keep them as tyres!
Petalled edge??! :D People actually go through that much trouble? And a TUTORIAL! :))))) I wonder what the people, apparently all over the world, have against flower pots, or, gosh, planting the flowerbed in the ground!
The Cupboard on Wheels FINALLY got some miles under it. We've been driving so little with the thing that I'm ashamed of even owning a car. Financially it would make more sense to grab a taxi the few times a week we put the poor thing on the road... But, I've got to admit, its bulky body and big trunk were excellent for this road trip, we didn't have to leave anything in sight for the burglars to rob in parking lots, everything fitted easily in the trunk!
We have the flowers-in-tractor-tyres too. Less common these days though, I'd say, or maybe it's just that I haven't travelled the countryside a lot lately. :) We have the "snow poles" too, naturally! :) (Do you also have those long, thin, orange ones along the dirt roads?)
I didn't spot nearly as many compared to how many there were when I was a kid. I was frankly surprised to see a tractor tyre flower bed at all, I had forgotten they were all over the place back when :D Also, I haven't been doing these road trips since childhood either; a reason why I decided (despite Spouse's grumbling) to take the girls. They should know at least something about their own country too! Helsinki <> Finland!!!!
And yes, we have the orange sticks with reflecting red and yellow tape on top as well. I've always wondered just how deep they go; they look so incredibly flimsy that the first snow plough passing by and tossing snow on top should in all probability either break or displace them, but there they are, sticking on the roadside, year after year :D

Also boots, buckets, tubs.
My brother last week took a picture of a tree growing out of the hood of a car. In Vancouver!
