*loves Bramble* I particularly like the hedgehog. :) And it's a mystery to me how anyone can learn to write Finnish - I think Bramble is immensely clever!
The girls have long since learned that all Harry Potter stuff AND hedgehogs in this household are MINE, so the hedgehog picture was drawn for ME *beams*
Her writing? *sporfle* At least with a computer she's bothering with some spaces between the words (they are not all where they should be, but at least there IS some space somewhere!), when she's writing with a pen it'sjustalonglineofletters and it's nearly impossible to make sense of it with all the spelling errors :))) Nah. She'll do fine at school next year when they are actually teaching her how to read and write. Now she's just puzzling it out on her own.
Hey, you, Swede! You too start school at seven. Do you also have these discussions about whether kids should start school earlier and do you know WHY Swedes and Finns start it first at seven? Do you know when Norwegians and Danish kids go to school? Or is this just some weird "grundskola" principle (Finns copied your school system in the 1960's/1970's, before that we had the German system, I think)
Sorry to butt in, but here in Poland children go to school at the age of 7, too. Occasionally, when the kid is smart enough, parents (after consultation with school) let the child start to school at the age of 6.
Not everyone agrees on that, saying that it's ruining the childhood - the most beautiful time when the kid is supposed to play, not sit still in a schoolbench.
Ah, you too?! Good to know! I've had this "why do you start so late" conversation quite many times and I only know Swedes do it too.
Here too some parents push to have their children admitted to school a year early, but I too think it's wrong. Being at school is not only about being smart enough to do so, but also about physical and social abilities, so even if a child is "smart" and can start to learn to read and write a year earlier, she might still be the smallest, clumsiest and most childish of the entire class and thus have a bad experience about school. I still feel bad about the one girl I know, her mother paid her psychological evaluation to get her to school one year too early. She's tall so you wouldn't guess she's a year younger than everybody else but because of this early start her grades are average at the best, and she's a bit of an outsider. Had she started when she was due, she would have been the best in her class, and also the most mature and motorically skilled!
*giggles* @ * the arrows that show the direction where the still upright leaf's supposed to fall soon (because of the autumn-wind or the careless wandering siili? :)) * "oletkose"!!! :D
The siili goes TUH TUH so hard that the leaf is falling over *nods*
Her spelling is.... creative, isn't it? :)))))) She's getting better at it, apparently you CAN teach yourself to read and write, even if it's taking a few tries :P
You didn't know clouds can smile? *is shocked* Haha, I also used to draw smiling suns and clouds ^^ But I usually put "evil smile" on clouds - you know, clouds are evil because they bring rain (that's what I though when i was kid :D) I love the family picture and numbers as mirror images - that's so cool! Do you think she draw it on purpose or by accident?
She's not at all convinced that you ONLY write from left to right. If the "bubble" or sign is pointing to the left, she thinks the text in it should be written from right to left, as mirror images. With numbers she has been very consistent too, she ALWAYS writes them as mirror images! I've told her a million times to check one of our many wall clocks for tips how to write them correctly, but she just shrugs *head desk*
She's very good at math though, so I don't think that will cause any problems. Once she learns to write the numbers correctly, that is :)))
These are amazing ((the penguins now want to be sauna elves!)) - we are still catching up on posts and hope the kellos are doing well for 2008!!! ((hugs))
Thank you for the Christmas card! LOL! I had to check it twice to understand that it really WAS a Christmas card, you hardly ever get pictures of palm trees and sea for Christmas :))))
Write an entry, you! You've been missing too long! ♥
