Life can get difficult when you're a little boy and the adults around you get things mixed up but it's wonderful when you have parents who listen to you and hug and kiss you and make things ok eventually. James is a lucky little boy who has lots of the right kinds of adults around him too.

I think children and adults have different expectations and observations. As a parent or a teacher, you think from your own perspective, so even if you are doing something for the child's sake -- as I think everyone is, including Mrs. Norton and Principal Henri -- it's not necessarily what's important to the child at all. I think it's probably a huge surprise to all of the adults at the end that Jim's big takeaway from the whole fiasco is, "I was sad because I wanted to paint a green dinosaur and I couldn't."

James is indeed lucky to have so many people who care for him. I think all kids (and all people) deserve hugs and kisses and somebody to listen to their side of things. :)

At first I just thought this was sweet, but then wham came the pedophilia accusations. Ow.

This bit is adorable, because it's total kid logic: They have milk and bacon and French toast for breakfast. It took a long time for Jim to figure out that Ronald and Ned also have French toast, not Cartwright toast or Lee toast.

Totally up there with my parents telling me as a kid that the birds moved to Africa in the winter, and then me concluding that the local lake where there were ducks in the winter was Africa. *g*

My parents used to reassure me during movies that so-and-so person couldn't die b/c he's the main character. I concluded that 'main character' was a type of invincible, immortal person.
