Can you give a rundown on what the lj_userdoc post says? I'm not authorized to view it.

Tonight there will be a code push, and one of the changes will make it so users will not be able to see non-public entries on other users' friends page (only their own friends page). [...] I just need to make sure the info is where it should be, since this is a change to a pretty fundamental way that LiveJournal works and we want to make sure users can find out about it easily.

I don't get the bruhahah.

Let's say:
You have a f-locked post.
When I view jic.livejournal.com/friends, I can see your f-locked post.
When I view butterfly.livejournal.com/friends, I cannot see your f-locked post.

Why is this supposed to tick me off?

there are some arguments on this initial post but you don't click links (generally).

brad assumes that no one viewed other users' friends pages to view protected entries ( ... )

I suppose you could always get a paid account and use your FriendsFriends page like I do...

hmm. that's a neat trick, but it becomes complicated that way.

but it becomes complicated that way

What it are we talking about here anyway?

If someone has you friended and you have them friended then they're on your friends list already; no need to visit other people's friends page to view their entries. If your friends page updates too fast then split it up into various generic filters.

If someone has you friended but you don't have them friended then they'll show up on your friendsfriends page. If that's too chaotic to view one specific person's entries then go visit their recent entries page.
From the sound of it, you're trying to be sneaky by not letting that person know you read their protected entries when the only way you could view their protected entries in the first place is if they have you friended, otherwise you'll only get their public entries anyway.

"it" = being able to actually find entries that would belong to a user who you don't friend, does friend you back, and not have to dig though pages upon pages because the friendsfriends page could be unwieldy depending upon how many users show up there ( ... )
