it's called "avg." it's their free version. giapet introduced it to me.
for some reason it routinely takes bloody forever to check my hard drives. but in this case, it checked *looks up* 19GB + 19GB + 53GB = 91GB. so... i guess it coulda taken 5 hours to check thru all that? i have it set up so it also scans within archives.

Makes sense to me. Scanning through archives can take a long time.

I use Avast and it takes forever to do a full scan of just the C drive. I can't imagine having it scan all of my mp3s and stuff too. That would take ages.

*whistle*
wow, that's a freakin long time.

How much ram and processor speed do you have available?
Anything else running in the background that might use up resources?

Even with archive checking it shouldn't take that long.

hmm. okay, you've got a good system then. not sure what the hell's up with it but who knows. :(

possibly it could be the AVG program itself. I use Zonealarm Security Suite with antivirus protection and it takes about 20 minutes to scan my drives(120gigs) including archive files.
and I only have a 1.2ghz AMD chip + 1gig ram.

I'm thinking the program then since you'v got plenty of horsepower.

prolly.
and i'm sorry but i refuse to use anything by zonealarm. all it's given me is headaches from other somewhat novice computer users asking why they can't get to their favorite websites. or download zip files from my website. i think it sucks, but it just might be that i don't know how to use it correctly.
*shrug*

I vote you run it again. Just to be sure.

I cannot imagine that there was nothing for it to find. No, I'm not very trusting. ;^)

It takes over an hour on mine and I don't anywhere near as much stuff as you do. Plus it's scanning deep.

No cookies for you! :p
