I couldn't help myself. I was seduced by the pretty. I'm supposed to be writing Batman/Superman, but I fell in love with the new Captain America movie.

Nearly all of us play in both (sometimes at the same time) sandboxes and this is an excellent fic. Love the rituals of the Commandoes

Thank you! I'm so glad you liked the bit with the Commandos. I didn't even know they had stories they wanted to tell until we were already into the fic. They're fun to write. :-)

Oh man, this was gorgeous. I love the Steve you have, the soldier and the man and the fact that he isn't cookie-cutter naive and innocent; he knows how to steal (prolly learned from Bucky first, they were streetkids after all), he's been through war, he is not a completely helpless character like a lot of fics paint him as.

The connection with the shield was beautiful and wonderful and shiny, I adore the idea of that kind of deeper bond between them, almost as though the shield's sentient, that it takes care of him. The physical connection was just fantastic. Would you mind if I played with that idea in fic sometime? I probably won't get around to it for a while (Coulson/Hawkeye is my current obsession), but I would link back here and drop you a link to whatever I did.

Also, Steve with modern weapons. Lord save us all.

I'm so glad that you enjoyed the story. I admit that I was nervous about writing a Steve that didn't blush and stammer, but IMO he's a war vet, with some well known emotional trauma, who is understandably a little wary about extending his trust in this new world he woke up in. So I'm glad the characterization worked for you. NOT that I don't intend to write him with his dry, funny sense of humor when he feels more comfortable, but that just didn't fit for the timeline I had in mind for this scene.

I really love the thought of the shield taking care of him, that there's a bond between them that makes it almost alive - sort of like Thor's hammer. I'd love to see what you come up with, if you want to play with that idea in your stories. Thank you, so much, for linking the story back here - that way I get to read your story and make sure that I don't miss it! :-)
