That depends on which Pokémon you have and what their abilities are. Type strengths and weaknesses must be taken into account.

I have learned that all of his Pokémon share the flying type. I don't know which secondary types they may have, though.

Nope! It's just that he's really strong and accepts challenges. A sparring match so you and your Pokemon can test themselves. He even gives a prize if you win along with bragging rights!

I defeated him recently, and my Azumarril knowing a rock type attack really helped.

I heard that a lot. I only got my Dunsparce who knows Roll Out though... He's kind of lazy too. I don't even know if he'd want to battle.
