I am not watching the Oscars. I have never watched the Oscars, and I highly doubt I will ever do so willingly. As such, I have a nice chunk of time to address the influence of Neo-Confucianism in the Tokugawa period regarding my monster studies thesis paper. La la.

monsters & mythology, thesis, japan!

Never watched the Oscars? Turn in your gay card, pal! Seriously, though I have watched them before, it's usually not by choice.

But I do live with someone who lives for it. {ugh} :)

As I never got a gay card, I haven't one to turn in. I've been a non-registered gay this whole time, allowing me to avoid/circumvent/ignore most gay cliches and expectations that our culture has. All of this I'm perfectly fine with, though it does get pretty lonely being all ostracized and stuff. *sniff*

I suppose that my aversion to this cultural event is my inability to relate or associate with the high profile figures of the film industry. I'm not saying that she/he are poor actors or that the cinematography was subpar, but I don't see the need to make such a glorified scene of it all. I think most would say (or have said) that I'm simply uncultured or 'out of touch,' and they're not entirely wrong in that. If this is high culture, I really want nothing to do with it.

Have you read "Bridge of Birds: A Novel of an Ancient China That Never Was" by Barry Hughart?

It is really very good and I think you would like it.

I'll keep it mind and add it to my long, long reading list that will happen when I'm done with school, but as with most things that I want to do right about now, it must wait for a few months more. Sigh.

Thanks for the recommendation, though!
