Awww.. that was heart-wrenching. Poor John.
I did get a little giggle at the haircut picture, though *L*. I remember having to fight to see that one :D
I'm also amused that the top picture was actually taken at the Lookout Tower in Elliot Lake, when we all went camping before John went out to Kenora. I remember how John just loved the scenery and tried to talk Mellon into seeing about starting a design business up here.
... He looks just so damn happy there.

Thats one of the reasons I still get so sad. i will never get to see him so happy and content just from a place.
