Rhetorical Question
Massu opened the door of the rooftop. He slowly walked to the bench he usually sat on but found it already taken by the last person he would have expected to see up there all alone.
“Yamashita-kun?” Massu said surprised “What are you doing here?”
Yamapi slowly raised his head.
“Ah, Massu, it’s you. I was just…reflecting.”
“Upon what?”
“Well, nothing in particular. I just have many things crossing my mind right now…”
Massu nodded and sat beside him.
“Something’s wrong?” he asked.
Yamapi looked at him and shook his head, even though his eyes were saying otherwise.
Massu sighed, not at all satisfied with the answer. He had always thought that 'Something's wrong?' is a rhetorical question of which the actual answer is 'yes' but everybody always says 'no'. And this happens especially with independent and stubborn people who never want others to know their feelings. Just like his Leader. But one of Massu’s qualities is to always understand others’ feelings.
He smiled and offered Yamapi one of the onigiri he had brought for lunch. The older boy looked a bit surprised but took it. Without being seen, Massu smirked. Food was one of the things he knew better and he was well aware that when you’re eating good food in a calm atmosphere with someone you know and you can trust you’re more inclined to talk, also about things you don’t usually want to say.
“Umai~!” Yamapi exclaimed “This onigiri is so good!”
“Mum made them.” Massu explained.
“Well, no wonder you love food!” Yamapi smiled.
Massu smiled back at him.
“Mum’s very good at cooking.”
“Yeah. Now I understand who you’ve learned from. Massu’s good at cooking too!”
“Thank you.” He blushed “Here, take another one.”
“Thank you.”
They ate silently for a couple of minutes.
“You know,” Yamapi suddenly said “I like cooking too. My mum too is very good at it and she used to teach me. I really enjoyed spending time with her. I’m quite hopeless but Mum always said that what I cooked was delicious. I miss that time. Now I don’t even have time to cook rice for dinner.”
Massu, who was about to take a bite from his own onigiri, stopped and looked at the other guy.
“Leader is very busy right now. Because he’s very popular and people want to see him.”
“Yeah… But, you know, being an idol is not everything. Someday it will just stop. People will become interested in someone else and I won’t be needed anymore.”
“That’s not true!” Massu exclaimed.
Yamapi was taken aback. The younger boy rarely raised his voice and he was afraid of having made him angry.
“I’m sorry… Don’t get angry, please.”
“I’m not angry.” Massu reassured him “I just think Leader shouldn’t say this kind of things. He’s important. Very important. For the Jimusho and especially for NEWS. We wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for you.”
Massu’s tone was serious and Yamapi lowered his head.
“I’m sorry… I’m just very stressed out. With the single, the drama and everything… I tend to become paranoid and feel sorry for myself when I’m stressed.”
“Then take a holiday.”
“What?!”
Yamapi thought that the boy was probably joking. They were just talking about how busy he was.
“Take a holiday.”
“I can’t-”
“Just for few hours. Go back to your family’s house, go see you mum and your grandparents. Relax a bit. And don’t think about work for an afternoon. Just go back to normal life.”
Yamapi looked at him.
“You’re serious?”
“Never been this serious.”
The leader of NEWS looked thoughtful.
“You know what? You’re right. I need to relax a bit!”
Massu smiled at him.
“Then go.”
Yamapi stood up and walked towards the door. When he was in front of it he turned back and smiled warmly at his band-mate.
“Massu, thank you.”
Massu just nodded and smiled.
The following day…
“Good morning everybody!”
With his happy greeting in English Yamapi opened the door of NEWS’ dressing room, a wide smile on his face.
Ryo, Koyama, Shige and Tegoshi looked quite surprised but smiled and greeted back. Meanwhile, the door opened again and Massu entered the room.
“Massu! Good morning!”
“Good morning, Yamashita-kun. How are you today?”
“Simply great! Thanks to you!”
Massu smiled.
“I didn’t do anything special.”
“Always modest.”
The boy smiled again and went to greet the others.
Later that day, after NEWS had finished their dance practice, Massu and Yamapi were alone in the dressing room.
“Ne, Massu…”
“Yes?”
“I want to thank you again. Your advice was really useful.”
“You’re welcome. But there’s no need to keep thanking me. By the way, how was your holiday?”
“Great!” Yamapi smiled “Mum was so surprised! She kept asking if there was something wrong.”
Massu laughed and turned to put his things in his bag.
“Ne, Massu…”
“Yeah?”
“Want to come to my place tomorrow evening? I’m not a great cook but I promise I won’t poison you!”
“Yeah, sure!” Massu said, a bit surprised.
“Great! Maybe you can teach me something. I’m a good learned, you know.”
“Sure! I’d be happy to help!”
“Yay! I’ll show Mum how much I’ve improved next time I go see her!” Yamapi said with a big smile.
Massu nodded and smiled back at his finally happy Leader.

Yay, another fic finished!!! This time it’s a MassuPi. How is it?
That sentence about ‘Something’s wrong?’ being a rhetorical question just came to my mind and I thought it would have looked great in a fic with Massu. By the way, I think I abused of the verb ‘smile’… But it can’t be helped when you write about Massu, right? XP
OK, I’ll stop blabbing now! XD
Thank you for reading!! =D
