When Sam had fallen in love with Jess, it hadn’t been a quick process, but rather spread out over weeks and months of wow and this is new. When they met, he couldn’t place what was different about her, and had originally thought demon or supernatural, because that’s what his life had been about for so damn long. It took him three weeks to figure out that she was just blonde, pretty, and had the most amazing eyes he’d ever seen.

He surprised himself again by not sleeping with her…at least for a month or so. He’d always been able to act shy and innocent, but the truth is he’d fucked his way through his first semester at Stanford. His days had been filled will class and library sessions, but the nights were all about quick hand jobs and bending whoever he happened to be around over the nearest available piece of furniture and just fucking until he forgot his own name.

That made Jess different, too. The whole girl thing was a bit beyond Sam’s comprehension at first. Yeah, he’d kissed girls, kissed a lot of them, but his only sexual experience before Stanford had been with guys. Well, one guy, and that was just too fucked up and entirely too beautiful to think about. So he’d earned himself a reputation of silent and good, and that had been that. Until Jess had smiled at him one day in class while she was passing back a homework assignment. He’d barely been able to take the paper from her small hands, because his heart had stuttered and he’d forgotten all about anything but the whiteness of her teeth.

Their first date had been the epitome of innocence. And really, Sam hadn’t thought once about how she would feel in his arms or his bed. He’d been content to pick her mind, find out why she was pre-law and yeah, he was actually pretty damn interested in why she did or didn’t like her roommates. It was so surreal, to sit down in a little diner and just talk, not worrying about who’s bed he’d be leaving in the small hours of the morning. He’d walked her home afterwards, still not sure about the etiquette or if he should feel as good as he did. But then she’d stepped up on her tip-toes and quickly pressed her full lips against his, and that had done it. Sam didn’t push, just let lips meet lips, not even bothering with his hands. When it was over, she opened her door and called a sweet, “Call me, ok?” over her shoulder.

Sam had called her the next day, unable to get the image of her blonde curls and big eyes out of his head.

Sam felt like the biggest, most awkward virgin the night they finally made love. It had been their two month anniversary, and he hadn’t been expecting it. Hell, if he were just allowed to be around Jess, he could forgo sex for the rest of his life. But she had apparently conned her roommates into being out that night. They walked into an apartment full of candles and soft music, and then Jess had grabbed his hand and led him towards her bedroom. The night was a blur of soft kisses and faltering hands, but Sam would never forget it.

He’d also never forget that he’d nearly whispered Dean’s name into her hair when he came. He managed to cut it off in a moan, and Jess had been too far gone to notice. Or at least she never said anything about it, and now, now it was too late to ask her anything.

But that night, Sam had lain awake long after Jess was sleeping peacefully in his arms, wondering what the hell was wrong with him; why each stroke of her feminine hands had reminded him of Dean’s strong and pushy hands. None of the other guys he’d fucked had triggered this kind of a response, so why did Jess?

When he woke in the morning to find Jess wearing nothing but his t-shirt and her panties while she whipped up a batch of pancakes, he realized that love probably had something to do with it.
