oh Nancy dear

So chatting with Twinny this evening got me all nostalgic. We talked about Nancy Drew. I liked the classic ones, the ones in the bright yellow hardcovers. I mean the newer paperbacks were fun too, but the "college years" were a disaster of epic proportions ( Read more... )

Mmm, I was the queen of reading the old-school Nancy Drew books in fifth grade. Our library had the entire set of old hardbacks. Never read the Hardy Boys, but hey, I imagine they had to be way better than boring Ned Nickerson.

BTW, there's a whole Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys nostalgia/snarkage thread over at Fametracker right now. You should check it out! :)

Hey thanks for the linkage Bella :)

And yes, Frank was infinitely better than Ned Nickerson. He was such a dolt. I mean, he broke up with Nancy because she decided not to go to Emerson University with him. Idiot.

I *loved* Nancy Drew -- totally my first obsession. And yes, only the old-school hard cover books would do :) I read and re-read them all.... And as Celli said, I do think I mary-sue'd myself into each one.

And the chloroform! And the non-dying! And the perpetual not growing up!

Nancy was my second. Came directly after Anne of Green Gables - because Anne/Gilbert is just so great :)

I loved it! She had like 1200 adventures all while she was 18.

Totally Nancy/Fred. I devoured all the crossovers (library, should I be ashamed that I never actually owned a single Nancy Drew?), and yes, I Mary Sue'd myself. Am actually in library right now and am more tempted than I care to admit to see if they have any Nancy Drew on catalogue.

No, you aren't the only fan of theirs. I started re-reading my whole Nancy Drew series a few months back and am just now getting to the supermysteries (which came out after I was way older - not getting into my age now!!). Anyway, heaven help me, I'm now bigtime back into them. I blame reality-tv for forcing such nostalgia on us... yep, it's all reality-tv's fault! :)
