I've had some thoughts swirling around in my head about our system of government, or really our election process, and a lot of the commentary on the inauguration today brought them to the forefront. Except I wasn't complacent; I was terrified. I was sure McCain was going to win. I really worried about a never-ending slide toward fascism and Christian-based government. But still, I had a kid to raise, things to do.

And then, having made an effort to really try to change things, and having been personally disenfranchised during the Republican convention, I find it hard to be other than complacent now.

Sorry to be all dreary. I think you make some excellent points.

While I certainly didn't like McCain, and gave Obama both my money and my vote, I wasn't terrified of the possibility of him as president. He's enough different from Bush, that I think it still would have been an improvement--both Obama and McCain pledged to close Guatanamo, for example, and I can't imagine he would have tolerated torture in the same way.

Of course, the idea of Palin as president did terrify me...

And it sucks that you were shut out of the Republican convention the way you were. I really do wonder about the future of that party and what it will look like in four, or even two, years.

The whole dynasty thing was one of the bigger marks against Hillary in my mind. I honestly don't know how I feel about her being secretary of state...
