Weird thing is when I worke din a shop in the early 80's a similar thing happened with a kettle ... I told the customer we would be unable to give a refund (which is what he asked for) ... he asked to speak to the store manager ... who then went on to say the customer was always right, and that a refund must be given.

It was a large independant store ... to me I am still annoyed that the guy got the money for something that we had never sold in the first place, with a receipt from a different department!

I was surprised by my manager refusing to give the woman the discount on the new one. I am not the level who can do it, but she could have done it. If I had done it, they would have called me in to the office and talked to me. The manager didn't even bat an eye. She just flatly refused to do it. This was before the woman got angry so I was surprised. Most of them cave right away and say just do it.
