LOL! I've always thought they threw in a bit of Spike.

I once read that Spike didn't love Buffy till the Monks screwed around with everyone's memories so they would protect The Key. That sent me into a tail spin. Then I remembered that Drusilla saw it long before Dawn was brought into the series. That made me feel better about it all.

Yes, I love fics where Dawn is their "daughter" ... Spike and Dawn have a great relationship. Like you I wish that we had known more about it - and can see where she would have been hurt not to see him in the awful parts of season 6, especally with Buffy MIA and her being a teen!
