My Reaction to Bin Laden's Death

May 03, 2011 08:07

I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy.
Seems this quote isn't by Martin Luther King, Jr, but that does not lessen the truth of it.

Martin Luther King, Jr did say this in his book, Strength to Love:

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that.

Hate cannot ( Read more... )

First off, I am sorry but I have been informed that I got it wrong, it's not his quote. So I have kept the post up and I have simply removed his name from it until I find the source ( ... )

Thank you for letting me know about the quote. I have edited my post and added words from Martin Luther King, Jr.

The reaction to the news bothered me. I do not rejoice in anyone's death. Not even someone like as horrible as Bin Laden.

Ack! When I said I speak only for my nation, I meant cos I didn't want to speak for any other, including yours, cos I didn't feel I had the right. Even though it might read like I was saying we were better than them I meant all of us LOL *facepalm*

Will I ever stop screwing up today?! LOL

This has me thinking about my morals and ideas. On one hand I can understand that people who have lost someone because of his actions or speeches would rejoice in this news on the other side I find it difficult to celebrate the loss of a life, even his. My personal believe is to treat others as I want to be treated so to kill him conflicts with that. I never want another person to lose his life in the way he did. Not saying that he didn't deserve punishment but the way... I would think that a trail would've satisfied me more.

It's a difficult problem. Bring him to the USA for trial or do what they did? Bringing him to the USA might have led to more threats and violence. I'm not happy with the way they handled it. I'm afraid it will just fuel more hate and rage toward Americans for his followers. Sadly, I don't think this will settle anything. Others who hate us will still hate us. We have won nothing by his death.
