Very nice - Emily survived (head cook) and we're already plotting for Brandywine! Thanks so much for your help at the mess, you and Mike and Tyler were such a great help! Please do come back and serve agian next year..... Which, by the way, I named the Drums Frederick (he was red) and Patrick (he was the black on). I have way too much fun in that kitchen!
I'm so glad we could be helpful! I would have hated to be more of a burden than a help. Thanks for the opportunity, too...it's one of the cooler "period" things I've ever done at a reenactment, and if I'm at UTR next year, I'll be there! :) I was wondering if anyone had named the fishies...I tagged them as Mike & Tyler when I put the photos on Facebook. ;D
I can walk now! I recovered fine after I switched permanently to modern shoes...although now I am shedding large pieces of skin off my left foot where the blisters & bleeding were. (Sorry, that's kind of gross...)
Thankfully, the foot-pain isn't my primary memory! In fact, this is definitely one event where I pretty much remember the good stuff...not so much the heat or shoe issues. :D I feel like I almost handled the temps better than the guys at some points, but then they were wearing long sleeves. The shorter sleeves of 18th century are AWESOME in the heat!
