Let's say, hypothetically, that I was losing my mind considering a new kind of project for the new year. And let's say, hypothetically, that this new project was out of Costume in Detail by Nancy Bradfield, would be appropriate for multiple Regency and some 1812 events, and involves enough handwork that I need to start now if I want to have a ( Read more... )

I've used YLI silk floss for my Bespin costume and it worked pretty well :-)

Not that one? There's one I really want to do but I haven't got time to embroider it. Bought the gold fringe for the bottom and saw it close up at Berrington Hall last Sept.

Ooh, you saw it close up? I'm jealous. lachwen actually had a photo in her files of the sleeve, which I bullied her into sending me when I saw her last night...I don't know as I have the time to embroider a dress, either, but I can pretend, right? ;)

Swiss muslin and Swiss batiste are a little different. Swiss muslin is a little sheerer and less shiny. One of my favorites for Regency, actually! It's very nice to embroider. I used it for two of my embroidered Regency dresses.

An added bonus, it's less expensive than the batiste. Always nice!

The batiste is very nice too--just not as light. I think I used it for the undersleeves for the yellow wool dress. I don't remember for sure! But I think that's where I used it. Anyway, you can see the undersleeves in this long reenactment post:

The right sheer fabric is so important, isn't it? :)

I went right out and ordered Swiss muslin from Farmhouse Fabrics. What can I say? It was on sale! Kind of. Significantly less than the batiste, too, like you said!

I can't remember off the top of my head; I'll have to bug Mike a little. I remember he was looking for fringe like that, but I can't remember what he found, or where. If nothing else, the Kalamazoo Living History Show is before the Regency Ball (which is my proposed deadline for this--eep!) and I can shop there. :D
