Life is not yet back to normal.

We did take the company up on that free hotel room.  We were hoping it would be non-smoking and have a microwave and refrigerator, but we only got one of those things: the fridge.  So our wish of eating dinosaur spaghetti-o's for dinner was smashed.  Justin ate some fruit and crakers, I had peanut-butter-apple.

According to this map, Centerpoint will not have energy back for my birthday. Aw shucks.  (but matthew's apartment will. hooray!)

But at least there is a timeline now.  Justin has gone to negotiate with HR regarding our hotel stay.

My birthday is this weekend.  I'm scheduled to go to the Aggies game versus the Miami HURRICANES.

good / not so good

We drove home last night

not much damage or stink, but we haven't opened the fridge yet

The 3 lighting fixtures in the master bathoom leaked... one into the sink, one into my jewelry-dish, one above a pile of shower cap and headbands.
The other leak is above the doorway at the other bathroom.

No power

I'm pretty sick of Ike and the confusion.

good news:

• my father-in-law drove by our building and the windows and roof looked good.
• parts of pearland have power
• I've talked to my friend in Beaumont and his family is OK

not good news:

• still no power in our apartment complex
• groceries in the area are still limited, especially on refrigerated items

Justin and I have relocated to my parents house by Dallas.  We've been able to talk to some people in Pearland and all the news is same: NO POWER (oh, but water, which should probably be boiled)

Anyone who evacuated is  being asked NOT to return.  Of the power company's 2.26 million customers, only 24% have power.  Most of that is probably emergency ( Read more... )
