You know what's amazing--Rome is a major stop for migratory birds.
I was walking the other day on the lungotevere (banks of river) and heard an amazing noise: it turned out the trees where I was walking were just full of birds.
Yesterday many more birds arrived: walking home there were great masses of swirling and swooping birds, especially at dusk.. I stood on the Ponte Garibaldi and watched them in formation for quite a while . . . .
You would have enjoyed Halloween last night: the main costumes are witches, mediaeval looks, and saints (it is Rome).
We went to dinner at this amazing place in Trastevere--the food was radiantly delicious! People would come in with costumed kids, people drifted by outside in varied saint and middle-ages outfits, and all the while the small pumpkin was flashing on our table!
As we departed I gave our pumpkin light to the next table who had been admiring it: Happy Halloween is how you say it in Italian (!) and the neighbors asked for a coin in the pumpkin saying it was a Roman custom. My response was: you get a light up pumpkin, you provide the coin--well they all started laughing!

Sorry for being tardy, I've been away.
I was just in Vienna in October, it was lovely!
