I was a child then. I remember the older teens saying that the war was because of a lot of greedy old men who had great financial interest in having a war and keeping it going.
A lot of conservatives said the hippies just said Peace, but they were a bunch of violent kids with long dirty hair, just interested in sex, drugs and rock and roll.
But some people old or young were really interested in stability, security, etc.
