Well...my PC...Herbie...I've had him about five years now. Roughly six months or so he started having some operational issues. Took forever to fire up, low virtual memory, couldn't switch between pages without taking his time about it ( Read more... )

Poor Herbie RIP... recycling is such a great idea, except for the hard drive, make sure you make this unusable/accessible first so no-one can access your stored information. Dead Herbie doesn't mean dead hard drive.

Destroying them isn't easy, smashing them is rather difficult, trust me they are not called hard drives for nothing. Soaking them in water, coffee, tea, sticky soda, or all of the mentioned before disposing, is what I did with my old work computer, as well has the boss trying to smash them with a metal pipe.

Another is filling it was an epoxy glue type stuff and making it a coffee/tea coster.... but then again I have no idea how big a laptop hard drive is... good luck

I think the hard drive might well be toast. He won't even fire up at this point.

I do know how to take a laptop apart. :-) I had to reseat the keyboard on my old one once. Neat trick to that, but not impossible to do.
