Your colleague sounds like my boss. It's screwing him over because he has no time to control everything AND do his own work. It's ridiculous.
An apartment and regular office is annoying enough to pack-up and then unpack so I can imagine an entire library probably requires a fair bit of work!
Midsummer. Taking turns every year would make sense. It's not fair to you guys to always be the ones traveling. And even if his friend's wife doesn't budge on the 'no visiting' bit, I still don't think you'd be wrong to keep it to every second year if you want to enjoy the activities and have Alexandra at least try them to decide for herself when she's older if she wants to take part.
Packing a library is not something I want to re-do, put it that way. I will, however, have to unpack the whole thing and put all them books back in their shelfes once my vacation is over. *sigh*
Well, things that make sense don't apply to this family, apparently. :-P One of the many, many reasons I dislike going there. I've decided to not go next year. Peting will still go, but I won't. Neither will Alexandra. :-P
I like Andy's idea about taking turns every year for Midsummer. It's not fair that you should do all the traveling, especially now you have Alexandra.
Work, I don't know what to say about that. I do understand having a stressful job, though, and how much that absolutely sucks, so I wish you the best there!
If sense only was a part of that family, that would have been perfect, but alas... :-/
Well, now I have two ten hour days this week and two next week... But after that? VACATION!!! LARP!!! VISITS!!! ALL THE FUN THINGS! AND SLEEEEEEP!! X-D
Why don't you guys take turns? You're so traditional when it comes to holidays and I love that about you. You incorporate tradition and culture into almost every major Swedish holiday. I think it's great and important that Alexandra grow up knowing the importance behind each holiday- especially Midsummer since it's alwas been so important to you. it might as well be important to her, too. I think she'd love it. Kids do love that kind of thing, especially once she starts talking -and dancing herself!
Well, Peting did see how miserable I was this year and that Alexandra was a bit stressed over the trip to, so he was very very understanding when I said that I am not going next year. He is free to if he wants to, since Midsummer don't mean anything to him. But I am so, so not. We'll probably celebrate Midsummer either with my mom or with Peting's mom. We'll see.
You're right though. I do like my traditions. Escpecially Christmas and Midsummer. They were the big family holidays for me when growing up. And I just can't see it any other way.
