You can actually get London Underground memorabilia with "MIND THE GAP" written on it; I am always reminded of the gap-monster in Neil Gaiman's "Neverwhere" which takes that up to a whole new level.
(and speaking as someone who totally nicked hir handle from the MNRR - but only after they'd stopped using it - GO FOR IT.)
I love the conductors on NJT trains when they get snarky/funny. Back in December, one was clearly irritated with people logjamming themselves at the front of the train and said, "Walk back for seats! The back is the opposite direction from the one the train is moving in!"
I take it there's quite a large gap at Secaucus? Wonder why they didn't design it better...
I speculate, but have there been any significant changes to the wheelbase of NJT railroad cars since the platform was built? I know that sort of issue has hamstrung the NYC subway (the IRT lines in particular, since they're the oldest) and meant they've had to engineer extensions to the platform where they know the exits of the longer cars are just too far from the platform edge.
I'd say that was a possibility if the Secaucus station was old. But it's the newest one on the NE Corridor line (and probably every other line)--even newer than the Newark Airport station. So really, they should have been able to build the thing to spec.
Once, on a very crowded train out of Hoboken, a lady conductor declared "There's two of us and seven hundred of you, please follow train crew instructions."
It's not that drastic, really, maybe eight inches since the station's very new. *glance* Yep, opened in 2003. Probably some idiot took a dive recently and they're stepping up awareness.
Are we going to go "food" shopping for your mom tonight? 'Cause we really don't have anything in the house for snacking or for her to drink... All we have is soda and she doesn't drink that.
Okay. I wanted to go to S&S at some point today, so I'll wait for you to come home. I did already pick up more milk when I went out for my bagel. However, I am foreseeing ice cream sandwiches and more Doritos at some point in the near future...
Spoke with Mom. She asked for orange juice (pulpy, "Natural orange" or store brand), yogurt, Vienna figners cookies, moar chips & salsa. She mostly drinks water with laods of ice, so I may get a bag of ice.
She wants to go to Maggie's and the diner and I told her about Tina Louise and the pizza place in the city and she wants to go to the Met, so... we're taking the bus. She is PSYCHED right now, so thrilled to be coming. \o/
