You could go war-scooting; drive around your neighborhood with your laptop and see where you find a good available wifi signal. Shouldn't have to go too far.

Funny that you should mention dial-up.

I was just thinking the other day how it has been one year and one month since I got rid of dial up (used dial-up for 13 years) andswitched to cable modem; and I got to thinking about how spoiled I have become being able to download and browse at super high speed.

Before getting my current cable modem, I always thought that my work internet was fast at DSL speeds of 1.5 Mb/sec. It seemed lightyears faster than my 56K modem speed at home. Then I got 5 Mb/sec. cable modem, and I couldn't imagine ever going back.

My heart goes out to you on this one.
