How scary, and how sad that he won't get to see his baby! Does his wife have a digital camera? I'd be happy to offer her a free pixspace account until he gets back, where she can upload pictures of herself, the rest of the pregnancy and the baby and he could see them easily from anyone's computer.
My husband fought in the persian gulf in '98, so I have a vague idea of what your family is going through. But at least my husband was Navy and stayed safely on his aircraft carrier.
Try to look at it this way - of the over 150,000 troops that have gone to iraq, not much more than 1,000 have been killed. That's less than 1%. Also, a close friend of my family went there in the beginning and he never left Kuwait. He came home safely. Try to focus on that. I'm not saying this to try to demean what he's doing, just to try to reassure you.
i was in pretty much the same situation. when I went over my son was 5 months old, when I got back he was 18 months. Depending on his unit and his mission he may be able to get emergancy leave to be home for the birth (or shortly after). I was able to send a couple of guys home for that reason. One guy we sent home when his grandfather died and then again 9 months later when his kid was born, coincidence? Anyway, the Red Cross is very helpfull with this stuff. If there are any complications before, during or after the delivery he will be able to go home. And he will have access to the internet so send LOTS and LOTS of pictures!
Good luck and you guys will get through. Let me know if you have any questions or problems.

That is horrible about your brother being away for so long. But the toxoplasmosis issue is far less worrisome than many people think it is.
