Welcome back. I'm glad you finished the series and enjoyed it. I definitely think that if the actors were willing there would have been enough left hanging to go one more season but the actors felt that 5 years was enough.
As far as your fave character being Melanie, my first reaction is that I'd love to know why. She has a number of good moments but she also becomes inflexible and bitter beyond acceptable levels. (I have very definite views about the characters that I've written about in my memories if you want to see where I'm coming from.)

How can you not love Melanie?? She is the strongest most amazing character on the show. She never backs down in what she believes and she stands up for herself and everyone she cares about :) She is an all around amazing person. Why dont you like her??
I don't hate her but I find her extremely uncompromising and inflexible. While her reaction to Lindsay's cheating was initially appropriate I think the length that she prolonged the agony of her "punishment" of Lindsay was over-the-top.
I think she demonstrated strength in S1 and compassion for Lindsay and I definitely admire her desire to balance a job and parenthood. Unfortunately, I don't think she truly excelled in any of these areas.
I don't hate the character, but I thought that her negative attributes out-weighed the positive.
That said, I liked Melanie much better than Lindsay overall. While Lindsay was all sugar and spice and everything nice at the beginning of the series I found that she progressively disappointed me more and more. The only time I really liked her was in the war for the baby. (Maybe a couple of other times but not that often after S1.)
I will agree with you that maybe Mel prolonged Lindsay's punishment a little long, but I will also add that the relationship was having problems before that...so the only reason she was dragging it out was because deep down she knew things were changing for the worst anyways

nope your not the only one. I have issues actually because like my great auntie vicki who can do it with Brian...I can justify anything and everything Melanie does LMAO.....I love her too much probably...although I have mega Lindsay hate that goes along with it
Welcome back :) I'm excited about the Sex and the City movie too. I just hope they don't ruin it. That was a great finale unlike another finale I could mention. :)
LOL that is so true :)...I am very excited bout the movie :) I just hope Big is in it otherwise we are going to have issues here.....there can be no movie without Big
