"One song, glory, one song before I go, glory, one song to leave behind..."

I'm a tad bit early with this (the final show is likely still in the middle of being performed as I type), but I have to post this before I start crying. You can scroll past if you like, as all this is overemotional & really quite sappy. ;)

I haven't watched this in so long, but it changed me the way it changed you when I first saw it. I'm sad/angry that I never got to saw it when it was running, but I do hope there is a revival, or I'll even settle for the touring company. I just can't believe it's over this soon.

...I need to go cry now. I can't even make a post like this, my thoughts are nowhere near coherent enough.

God, I'm so sad this is over. My third grade teacher played the soundtrack for us in class, and I've been in love ever since. I sang Seasons of Love for a class performance in the fourth grade. I shrieked when I saw the trailer in theaters, and bought the soundtrack as soon as it was available. The really sad part is that, not only are both of my versions of the soundtrack lost in the abyss that is our old desktop, my DVD was borrowed by someone and never given back. RENT has been in my life for years and years, and while it didn't touch me quite like it touched you, and I never got to see it on Broadway (even though I was in New York two years ago), I am so so so sad that it's over. GAH. CRY.

RENT is one of those cultural events that doesn't just brush over people, it affects them in the deepest way possible, whether you're a star of the show or a fan. Everyone I know who knows the show remembers their path to it - their first song, their first expirience, those rushes they felt the first time they watched the movie or saw it on stage. Some musicals are ruined by their movies but RENT was different. The movie brought a show people might not have found on their own into the public eye, creating controversy, sparking interest, waking a whole new generation of theatre fans. It was a good thing. RENT was a good thing ( ... )
