I couldn't tell if I loved this episode for its Daniel/Betty implications, or if it shot down the 'ship entirely
I felt the exact same way. But then I watched that last scene between them about a million times and I realized that Daniel was actually kind of tickled pink that Betty had a crush on him, even though he didn't feel the same way, because you can see him being completely embarrassed for thinking that she would like him like that, and then the camera pans to Daniel while she's kissing Henry, and that had to mean something, right? We already knew that he was depressed, so there was no point in showing him again, other than to tease us with, "Wait, is he depressed that Betty doesn't have a crush on him? Or are they just saying, yet again, that he is depressed about Renee? Which is it? DAMN YOU UGLY BETTY WRITERS! WHY MUST YOU BE SO AMBIGUOUS?" So... I think it was definitely put there to say "Don't discount this ship just yet." It was a perfect, subtle way to start a shift in Daniel's feelings for her. And now that we

I'd like to think that this was their way of laying the groundwork. Kind of like saying hey, they're not quite there yet, but you never know! It seemed like neither of them had really thought of the other in a romantic sense before. Now, though, that little bit of curiosity is there.
I still don't think Daniel/Betty will be canon any time soon, because we still have the Gio arc to play out, and God knows how many other things will pop up. But I'm pretty confident that Daniel/Betty will get their shot later. :)
I have to write a speech for possible reading at graduation, and I think I need to sneak in some of these. Maybe the one about the boat and the bowling ball? Or the lame duck?
