I got back to London late last night.  My flat was insanely cold from being empty for over a week!  I'm not sure that the heat is working at full blast at all actually.  It's been on all night (we never need to do that) and the place still isn't particularly warm.  So either there's a cold soaked into the flat that's taking a (long) while to shift ( Read more... )

*offers hot tea* I drink a LOT of hot tea in the winter.

I'm very curious as to M's mother's reasoning against breastfeeding. Does she think it's just too much hassle?

Everyone I know who's tried to only breast feed has had problems with the baby not gaining as much weight as recommended by the doctors and having to go to supplementing with formula. And then feeling guilty about it.

I really don't know. She says it will be hassle, and that my health will suffer. From my point of view, I know nothing about it, but I am trying to go from a starting point where I'm assuming it will work and will not be hassle! No point in stressing about something before it even happens, eh? And I don't think I will have any uhm... moral problem with supplementing with bottles, but I need to find out whether the reasons people caution against doing that are true or not - I have heard that your milk will stop or not come unless you're using it and also that babies can find the bottle easier and might just not bother with boob anymore if you give them a choice. I have no idea what amount of truth there is in either of those, or what might be breastfeeding gestapo propaganda.

I am dreading maternal guilt. Everyone talks about it, and I have a propensity for feeling guilty about stupid stuff/nothing anyway!

I have a tea, thank you. And I will get another mug on your advice :)

Well, if the baby ignores boobies it might be less embarrassing when you hand the kid off to another woman. My brother's baby immediately started nuzzling when I took her.

Haha, true. Someone's baby did that to me recently and I felt a bit silly/redundant.
