It's out on the
Murky Depths subscriber's email, so I guess that makes it official: "Heart of Clay," a sequel of sorts to "Saint Darwin's Spirituals" has sold and will be featured in issue 11 of their magazine. Not only sold, but will also be doing the one-two punch of Murky Depths/
Variant Frequencies! That's right, you'll be able to listen to Rick Stringer's killer podcast production for free again. And from what I understand, another one of my favorite people in podcasting is going to be a part of the cast which is going to completely rule! (Now if only I could figure out which part he's playing...)
Also, remember the great cover
Vincent Chong did for Saint Darwin? Well, Vinny's coming back to do "Heart of Clay" for Murky Depths! I can't wait to see what he comes up with.
What is "Heart of Clay about?" It's a romance. With a golem. And it's got one of the most violent fight scenes I think I've written. I like what my pal
voidmonster said after reading it: "bloody and fucked up and sweet all at once."
Look for it in 2010! (Wow. 2010 sounds so futuristic!)
Huge thanks to the people who beta-read this for me:
bogwitch64,
prusik,
kirizal,
voidmonster,
orogeny, and non-LJ folk: Mark Tullius, Larry Watkins, and Meg Rottman. And I'd be remiss not to thank
Matt Fuckin' Wallace, who took a big chance with me on the first Saint Darwin story, and who totally got behind this story, too. (One thing I appreciate about Matt Wallace is that if he doesn't like something I do, he tells me about it.) Also a huge thanks to
anne_stringer who has been incredibly patient with me during the editorial process, and has not made me feel like a pesky, pathetic, noob of an author. Yes, those are a lot of people to thank for a damn short story, but this story would suck without them, so I really can't thank them enough. You guys and girls all rock my world!
So this one's a ways away but I'm thrilled about it nonetheless. Maybe I can do another Saint Darwin story in the meantime!
