My mother used that song to frighten us as children, so I remember, as a child, thinking Santa was a little like God.

I never did it to my children. I couldn't have put them through what my mother did to us with a good conscious.

My mom kind of squashed anything Santa right from the get-go, so it never happened to me.

That's so adorable. But don't be too hard on yourself. It might have backfired just a little bit but it did teach Claire a good lesson--you never know when someone's watching, so be good even when you don't think anyone is!

Seriously, she may never like the song (I don't either, to be honest!) but we all make these innocent gaffs, especially with the oldest children in the brood. They forgive us, because just like Claire might have been naughty that ONE time, parents have their moments too.
