Two Horsemen Equal ...

Jul 21, 2006 07:54

This started hereIt had been easy enough to find out who was hiding the scientist that Methos had made clear he wanted to find before Hsu. Easy for Kronos to get the details, after all, it was the kind of community he'd moved adeptly through for many years. The why behind his Brother's interest in the man had been murky until he'd reviewed the ( Read more... )

Methos was still uneasy about the fact that he was putting himself in Kronos' debt. Even to make Fred and Wes happy, it was an extreme maneuver. But Hsu in his would be helpful as well, and the academic in him was intrigued, and anyway...

Anyway, he was bored, and that never boded well for anyone.

He didn't tell Wesley where he was going, letting him think what he would. He hoped Fred was strong enough to keep the boy sane if this went badly.

Playing guessing games with Kronos was never really a wise decision. "Whether or not we should blow them to bits anyway?" He doubted it was anything so banal.

"Safe where?"

As reply to Methos' first question, he slid the remote-control device across the table. "I'd be careful with that if I were you," he deadpanned and he rose to his feet. "Human curiousity being what is, they're going to open that box. The chances of them picking the correct vial are 50-50... unless you're feeling generous and want to help them."

He nodded towards the door. "It's the one on the left-hand side," he said and began to walk towards them.

Fuck.

He couldn't let Kronos kill Griffin, or Hsu would be miffed. And a miffed Hsu was not a Hsu in his debt, which meant not a Cassandra in his debt, which really had a nice ring to it. Besides, he might have questions.

He scooped up the device and hurried toward the men, rapidly trying to think of something to say.

In contrast, Kronos lagged behind and pulled a second remote control device from his jacket pocket. Thumb placed firmly on the button, he leaned against the doorframe and watched Methos approach the trio's table.

He'd decided the direct approach, of young researcher from the Watchers, was best.

"Mr. Griffin...I'm Adam Pierson. We've been looking for you..." Slightly foreboding, but sounding embarrassed about being foreboding.

"Wait... stop... don't open that," Kronos said doing his best Willy Wonka impersonation as he saw the man's attention beiong diverted from the package in front of him to Methos.

He moved closer, ready to take the initiative if Methos was unwilling or unable. He wasn't going to leave anything to chance.

Methos almost choked, but managed to look concerned.

Methos eyed the package, and eyed Griffin who was looking like a rabbit. Not aware of Kronos' plan, his only thought was to get the bomb away from the mortal.

"I think you'd better give me that."

Kronos smiled from his vantage point behind Methos. He was still very good under pressure. "I'd do what he said if I were you." He raised his hand high enough to show the trio the remote control device in it.

Griffin jumped, putting the device down and backing up quickly.

"You're from the Council?"

Methos nodded, and reached for the package, picking it up just as carefully.

Both men simultaneously reached for their guns as Griffin slipped protectively behind them.

"No, no, no," Kronos said and shook his head. "Sorry about this," he said and smiled at Methos. Then he pushed the button on his remote and the box exploded in Methos' hands and released the contents; the invisible gas.

The two men opened fire. Methos was struck in the chest several times and he dropped to his knees before keeling over completely. Kronos was rather surprised to find that he hadn't been hit, however a bullet had grazed the sleeve of his leather jacket and his ire rose.

Before the men could release another volley of gunfire, the gas overtook them and they collapsed to the ground.

There was pain from the explosion that he turned his head away from quickly.

It seemed very unfair when the bullets hit him when he'd been trying to save them and then he knew a moments panic, that this was it. Kronos' revenge and he'd walked right into it.

And then he knew nothing.

Kronos was very pleased. It all went according to plan. He turned once more and looked over the suite. Methos was still recovering from the gunshot wounds he'd suffered but he'd be all right. The men had been taken to a secure location. He'd left the address for Methos on the bedside table right next to the vial of serum along with a copy of Griffin's lab notes.

He patted his jacket pocket and smiled as he felt the contents within; a sample of Methos' blood.

Methos arched up as air hit his lungs again, and took a long minute to appreciate the fact that they did fill with air again.

He looked around and expected to be tied up, but he was in a nice suite. He was clean,. He was alive.

It took a moment to process that, to push through his confusion, but then he saw the vial. The note. The lab notes. None of it made sense, but he grabbed the serum and put it in the box he'd brought for it almost immediately.

The lab notes he'd keep as well, just in case.

He wasn't sure what to do about the location. He could go take care of them himself, then hand Griffin over to Hsu, or her could just let Hsu take care of it. Part of him wanted to go have his revenge for getting shot. The other part of him didn't want to risk losing the serum.

In the end, he pulled out his cell phone and called Hsu with their location, along with a specific request that the men who were not Griffin be shot on sight.
