Maxis-Taste Dare #32: Excuse the dust

Jul 07, 2012 20:28

For this dare, I chose Desiderata Valley's Mostly Modern Museum, since it was pretty rubbish at being either modern or a museum.
Before:

Ground floor.

Second floor.

Third floor
Très maxian.

After:

I used Buggybooz's peg racks to cover the ugly brown floor edge. It gets in the way when one's looking at the first floor from the front side, though.

Front desk, always abandoned.

What's a Museum without a gift shop? There are overpriced art books, overpriced canvases, and ridiculously overpriced hand-made trinkets and jewellery.

Behidn the red door there's a toilet. I only built one, sims don't care about gender.

Even the bathroom isn't a refuge from ~*meaning*~.

Going upstairs, we enter the modern, minimalistic first floor.
The glass is a fence, not windows. I admit to replacing some of the exterior walls with it, but.. it's still a wall, right? Just a different kind :U

I don't have that many decorative items in my game - ones that aren't clutter anyway - so I had to improvise.

I replace the useless terrace with another room, and hanged some paintings in there.

And the second floor is the obnoxious post-modern level, a tribute to kitsch and "why the fuck not".
*disclaimer: I understand the impoirtance of the post-modern movement and admire a lot of its pieces. Please don't try to explain it to me, nobody explained post-modernism well in all of its history.

The urinal was mswn's idea. :D

The terrace is an interactive installation; the guests are encouraged to water the flamingos.

And this is Natasha's first collaboration with the Museum. She offered John a detailed explanation of the meaning and movites behind it, but he tried to escape through the window halfway through, so the world will forever have to guess. Thanks, John. You phillistine.
(it's also my favorite thing on this lot.)

I didn't include a restaurant, or a cafe, or almost any fun items, since I hope sims will actually look at the exposition if they're bored enough. (maybe I shouldn't have fenced half of the decorations in, huh?)
At last, this place is as pretentious as it should be.

Ground floor.

First floor.

Second floor.

Thanks for reading!
