Pretty much all of this.

Can I also add to this that it's normal to hate being rejected. Whenever someone criticises or turns down something of mine I am thinking "eff you eff you eff you" even as I smile sweetly and thank them. Then I go off, think about what they've said calmly and where I think they're right (and they are for a good proportion of the time) I make the changes. And telepathically apologise for cussing them out.

But basically, your mate will either cotton on quick that she's not the special purple snowflake, or she'll stop writing. Hopefully the former rather than the latter.

YES. To all of this.

I mean, I'd be a hypocrite if I didn't agree, since I'm somehow crazy enough to keep on querying despite getting nothing but form rejections for 5+ years. XD

Amen. If you love it enough and want it enough, you pony up and deal with the rejections. Of course it sucks, but there's also an element of paying your dues.
