Oh, come on, don't be such a prude. Like yourself, I've always had some grudges against the US, but when I got there, it wasn't nearly as bad as I had anticipated, rather on the contrary. People were very nice, outgoing and hospitable. I didn't feel looked down on or that "the locals" felt superior to me as a foreigner in any way, like they had to make a big point out of being American or something. I felt very welcome, and didn't really notice any of the usual bullshit I'm used to hear and see whenever there's and American show or something similar on TV. You don't put yourself in a very positive light by being so....uhm...prejudiced! Besides, every one deserves a chance, even Americans. They can't help that they've been born in that country, and you shouldn't generalize a population of that size. I rest my case for the time being.... Oh, just one more thing: NY isn't really what you can call typically American, it's more like a melting pot of people that's been around and knows a thing or two more than their fellow citizens.
